I’m asking AI a bunch of questions about boats and solar power, but I think I’m ready to ask and confirm a few things if I may…
I was told to consider the Trampa VESC 75/300 MKIV esc combined with a Reacher Tech D70L165 submersible motor.
Does that combination sound like I could adapt it as a submersed outboard motor with a 9" x 6" pitch prop? I realize it will be trial and error on height and prop, but is the motor and controller a solid choice for my project?

I wish I could find a mount that performs like yours for the Reacher Tech D70L165… I imagine mine will resemble a big ugly manually steered trolling motor instead of a sleek outboard. Well done!

If you wanted 20 hp, what motor and esc would you choose?
Please be aware, these KW ratings are quite exaggerated. Flipsky offers the 70165 (99% sure same motor) at 8.8kW PEAK.
Doubt you can actually run it at that continuously. Maybe with 24S battery as you have higher voltage and lower current. But this is not a great motor for 12KW. Maybe check the 85165 or 90165. Those are more appropriate but very thick.
Let me clarify… I want to leisure cruise in my 20’x8’ solar boat at 5 mph most of the time. But I want reserve power in case of a emergency. If I’m smart, I may only need 30% of the available power. Hopefully.
I found these 10HP Golden Motor Outboards that I hope will work out. These outboards may be best because they optimize 48V batteries without wasting power.
If I use two Golden’s on my 7’ wide transom spread far apart, I hope to steer using a dual joystick throttle only… Differential Thrust Control… But I’m not convinced of the ease of use compared to one 20 hp Golden Motor outboard controlled by a steering wheel and cables…
