For those wondering if this combo works, i’m sure it will. The cables come out the side just fine, but i’m going to have to print an adapter as the FD HP bolt PCD is a bit different to the Flipsky 6384’s PCD. I’ll share the STL for free as soon as it’s done. Also the FD pod is nice, but doesn’t look as hydrodynamic as @foiling_moose’s one and its way more expensive!

Haha where did you manage to get you hands on the FD copy of the nano pods?
If you are after a toolless setup its great, but I never really change masts anymore. Having a dedicated alloy mast is so cheap to do and there are ways to do nano pods on alloy and carbon masts without the strap.

I have a carbon mast that i want to use for kite foil and foil assist so it will be perfect for that, would not want to back to an alloy mast, but to each their own, i had an ali mast i also used for years with no issues 🙂

Per the FB FD groups looks like the FD mini pod is now at retailers in AUS, soon stock to start appear in the USA.

🤣🤣🤣 after recently getting kicked out the foil drive Facebook group for pointing out they have copied open source nano pods. This makes my laugh. Good to see it’s copied already.

Also, had a bit more of a think about this, i’m not going to share my stl, FD has put a ton of effort into this design and they are GC’s I bought and will use their pod, my printed part is just an integrated adapter really for my special use case and will definitely be weaker and less optimal than the oem part especially if used with FD motors.

I’m not trying to sway your decision, just more of a general rant.
In one sense, yes they have designed it from the ground up. In another sense they have very much copied the concept/idea. Well in fact their entire brand and product line is built on copying other peoples ideas (all the proof exists on this forum alone). If anyone wanted to release open source versions of their products, they wouldn’t really be able to stop them (prior art even existed before their patent). It would be nice for them to honour where the original ideas come from and it wouldn’t actually damage their brand in any way!
The part where is does get really murky and irritates me is that they continuously breach consumer laws by telling their customers that if they use 3rd party parts (prop blades, other nano pods, batteries etc) that they will breach warranty and not replace. Using blanket statement like that breaches the law. If a product did fail, it would be on FD to prove that the 3rd party part was without a doubt the cause of failure.
Any way, rant over. If you want a stronger version of the 3D print, you could take a mold off the 3D printed part and use a decent PU pour resin, You’ll get a very decent and strong part with the correct resin.

What’s interesting here is how in the past everyone has waxed lyrical about needing the pod at 90% to the mast. With the new FD mini pod on carbon masts, its almost always at an angle depending on mast. I wonder if they will release a new rubber insert to fix it.

I don’t know how to thank you! The new adapter just arrived, and I was incredibly surprised to see that the geometry of the holes on the old Gen2 motor doesn’t match those on the new accessory… I almost died!
Please, if you could share that adapter so we can print it as soon as possible (not just me, but also my children and friends who use this fantastic “toy”), we would be extremely grateful.
For me, just having the adapter that converts the holes of the new pod to those of the original Gen2 version, with the integrated cable that can’t be removed, would be enough.

I didn’t know that they had changed the actual hole placement on the motors. Does anyone have reference to what spacing they are using on the different versions?

Finally, I got off my butt and drew up a diagram of the hole geometries for the original Gen2 motor and the new Mini Pod.
I’m sharing the information. Tomorrow I’ll finish fabricating three 6mm aluminum parts.
Of all the options I’ve been sketching and creating 3D models, the best option is CNC or laser cutting and machining the holes so that the outer ones have countersunk screws and are perfectly integrated into the part.
90nm anodizing or 120nm epoxy paint will be the finish… pure showmanship…

Your dimensions are wrong. They old motor is 30mm spacing diagonally across the centre. The new motor is 44mm diagonally across the centre. Use a circle to get the bots in the right place for the adapter.
Use acetal instead of aluminium, that way you don’t need any finishing. Adding 3mm thickness won’t have any weight penalty either.
