I’m hooked…
I managed to spend 1H30 (1 Full batt + 1/2) on a Flite this afternoon and I loved the feeling !! I was quite surprised to be able to stand and move around within the first 40 min
And oh man these are fast! I didn’t dare pushing it above 30km/h
Can’t wait to finish my own, but now I have even more interrogations on my choices of sizes…
So… Battery assembly is probably starting next week. Went for 13S10P of P45B.
Watertight box is ordered.
Still need get a charger, was thinking about something around 20A…? What are you guys using? (Planning on charging through the BMS… )
As for the board, I managed the Flite (rigid board) with 100L earlier, what size should finally I get ? Smaller, bigger? '(Will be an inflatable, and I’m 100kg.)
I’m currently considering somewhere between 95-105L or maybe 110
I guess an update is long overdue…
It worked…
I assembled the whole battery
Installed it in my “case”
And chose to have the Vesc in a dedicated “waterproof” box outside for better cooling. (Thermal compound between Vesc and Box)
However, after 5/6 sessions, I ended up having water ingress in the Vesc Compartment… and it died.
A new 75200 has been ordered, and I now need to find a “better” way of doing things. I do not know where it failed; either the seal of the aluminium box or the sealing (Sika 521UV) between the battery box and the Vesc box.
The dedicated aluminium box was perfect, never saw the Vesc above 42°C.
I’m about to order a bigger plastic case to fit the Vesc with the battery but I’m worried about cooling. I’m a bit reluctant to have an opening in the box for a cooler…
Overall the external aluminum box seems like a good approach.
You could always try drilling another hole in the aluminum box to add a schrader valve or something similar. Then seal it all back up and pressurize a bit with a bike pump. See if it holds air pressure and that would mean it’s sealed. If pressure is not held you can submerge in the bath and search for bubbles
I charge and discharge my 2 batteries through a JBD 240A BMS they are 10S11P 55AH after 1.5 years no issues with the BMS the cells are always super balanced like 0.01v apart
While trying to come up with a new plan, I came across these DEUTSCH DTHD04-1-4P / DTHD06-1-4S connectors.
They are supposedly IP67 and 100Amps, and seem to be meant for use in harsh environments (including under the hood)… Has anyone given them a try to connect the Motor to VESC?
To top it up they can also found on Ali for fairly cheap…
