# Looking for best way to weld 18650

Hi guys!
I m looking for a best way to weld my two battery pack of Lginr18650hg2 . The idea is make two 6s12p battery pack without bms . For the charge i want to use a balance cable with a balance charger and for the discarge i want to put a lipo alarm into the both pack! Do you have some advice about spot welder pen or something else? Thank you!

I bought a malectrics arduino based welder for mine. For high power builds, it seems that copper+nickel sandwiching is a good way to go.
Recently I found an interesting one that used copper bus with resistor legs acting as per cell fusing.Basically tesla pack style building.
Lots of good battery building info over on endless-sphere. I’m still learning how to effectively navigate this forum.

Wery happy with it.
I used a china sunkko before.
This is so much better than the china welders

I worked very well, but if go for it you must change a couple of resistors before welding first time to protect the welder. I could provide you with instructions to do so.

I’ve done a lot of research into this as I would like to start building my own batteries, and currently, it looks like the best cheap options are the Malectrics ([https://malectrics.eu/](https://malectrics.eu/)) and Battery Hookup’s supercapacitor welder ([Ultimate DIY Super Capacitor Spot Welder – Battery Hookup](https://batteryhookup.com/products/ultimate-diy-super-capacitor-spot-welder)). Malectrics is very well known, Battery Hookup’s is newer but I hear people are liking it and that it works well. Haven’t bought it yet myself but I have bought other products from them before.
Another option is more commercial welders such as Sunkko and the high-power AwithZ welders (e.g. [AWithZ UF20B- 10.5kW Spot Welder](https://diy500amp.com/products/awithz-uf20b)), but both are more pricey and the Sunkko’s don’t have a very good reputation. AwithZ don’t seem very widely used but I haven’t heard anything bad either. (Update: I was just reading some posts over at Endless Sphere where they were recommending AwithZ!)
kWeld is the gold standard but is very expensive especially in the US.
Personally I think I would buy the Battery Hookup welder since they are cheap and the shipping is fast/cheap since I live in the US. If you live in the EU then the Malectrics might have cheaper shipping.
As for the cheap $20 welders like you asked about above, I’ve heard very mixed things; some people mod them and say they work amazing, but they do require modding (digging up obscure youtube videos to find info on the one you bought 😃) and the reliability is probably not great. If you went that route I would probably be prepared to buy several of them as there is high probability of failure 😆

(clearly a chinese tool, but at least covered by amazon warranty…)
They are around 60€, they claim to weld up to 0.3 and comments are not too bad…
But it seems too cheap to me to be a good alternative… what do you think?

If you choose Malectrics, don’t buy a lipo battery. Mine is dead after one year. I think that car battery is better.

If you really want a lower price point like that, a better option is probably AwithZ UK1 ([AWithZ 9000W Battery Spot Welder, Rotary Knob Operation 100 Gears Adjustable Foot Pedal Operated, 0.1-0.3mm Spot Welder with Dual Pulse Output, Portable Spot Welder for Making DIY Battery Packs (UK1) - Amazon.com](https://www.amazon.com/AWithZ-Operation-Adjustable-0-1-0-3mm-UK1/dp/B0FGP1C7RG)). Similar price point and looks much better to me; has many reviews.
The UKF10 ([AWithZ UKF10 Professional Super Capacitor Farad Spot Welder for Battery Pack Making, Repair, Powerful for 0.2mm Pure Nickel & 0.35mm Ni-Plated Steel, 3 Modes w/Smart Pen (UKF10) - Amazon.com](https://a.co/d/8hF3m3L), also at diy500amp) is probably much better I think but again more expensive.
Second @DutchFoiler; I’ve heard a lot of good things about diy500amp.
