# Placing foil-assist box on the body

For a system in a backpack - a cable control solution fits perfectly.
It seems that controlling the ESC is as simple as an Arduino PWM signal…
Adding a pressure sensor would enable use between teeth, with a tongue, or with fingers.
I consider implementing it.
What are your thoughts?

Why not run a coiled cable and leash through the centre? That way they have a similar stretch.
Or run a coiled power cable with a retractable leash through the centre.
If you used a disconnecting phase plug you may start popping ESC’s.

Hmm good point, can’t ever imagine falling and pulling cable connect powered up though…it’s always in the surf scenario when pod is out of the water and motor unpowered. Is quick disconnect and esc damage still an issue when esc is powered but there is no throttle?

This is exactly what I am doing this days, I felt guilty to leave my backpack foil assist taking the dust because I only use m’y tow since a year and I discovered Flow Custom V2 solution so I took the train 😉

That’s 14AWG, isn’t it a bit light for our application? I guess the risk of wires overheating are mitigated in a marine environment, but there is definitely a power loss penalty over 2m of cable.
I went with 12AWG which is still a bit of a compromise, but weight and ease of use are determining factors.

That’s the catch, harder to find in bigger core sections. You’d have to coil it yourself, possibly not as tightly as what Etienne referenced.

I’ve always used 3g2.5 in my foil assist systems with 12S since 2 years now. Like Foildrive V1 in fact !

What do you mean by performance ?
For the moment, I tried it one time on flat water and loved it. It doesn’t snap my leg when I pump like I was supposing before using it.
As my leash is way shorter than the cable extented, it feels very safe and it is tidy & clean.
By the way, with my backpack, I had 3m of cables, now only 2 with beltbag.

I am glad that you enjoy… and great that you find these advantages …
By performance I mean electrically - the cable cross sectional area + length which are worse when coiled, plus more weight. I mean relatively speaking coiled vs not coiled for same setup.

I’m just waiting on parts for mine. I see you guys are using 12awg is that enough. I ordered 10awg. I was worried it would burn out with. 160amp esc. If 12guage enough I might change to that?
