# Waist belt Assist 12s1p

I have been wanting to create a lighter waist belt assist with a smaller size box. I found some of the newer 21700 cells have made this possible while still getting a decent runtime.
Using Linkdata 65p cells I made a 12s1p battery and then designed a 3d printed housing to accommodate the battery with the receiver inside. I fully potted the battery and receiver inside the box for waterproofing with epoxy resin. A Sequre WP14200 esc is mounted on the top side of the box and is removable if needed. I used a Cnlinko waterproof 14 pin connector to allow access for cell balancing. The box is mounted to a waist belt from amazon.
I usually ride my integrated foil assist prone board setup and have a dedicated diy mast with an integrated motor. To make this mast work with the waist belt system I made an adapter plate that plugs into the mast baseplate using a MR60 connector.
First use was in flat water efoiling and I was able to ride 30 minutes continuously on the battery down to 3.2 volts per cell. I used it for the first time in some windy surf conditions yesterday and was able to ride for 36 minutes.
Total weight without the mast is 5.1lbs
I was able to get the sequre 14200 programmed correctly after having some issues with the stock am32 settings. The issue was the motor KV was set to 2000kv and I am using a 105kv motor. This was limiting my RPM severely on my initial testing. Appreciate everyone on the forum helping out with getting this issue sorted. 🙂

Really clean build, looks nice! May I ask where you got your coiled cable? Also what connector is that on the battery leads? Looks kind of small next to the 8awg wires.

I am using an XT60 waterproof version that I coat with dielectric grease. The 8awg cables are overkill at this length and amperage. I might go with XT90 connectors for the anti spark feature next time.
The cable was a straight cable that I coiled using the heating method around a pipe.

Lovely build - very clean and professional - well done!
What connector did you use for the phase cable?
Also what did you print the case from and did you waterproof/coat it? Have you got a seal in the lid or is it permanently glued shut?
Oh… and 30 minutes run time - on 1P! That is insane. What motor and prop are you using?

Phase cables are directly soldered and waterproofed without any connector inline. Printed in Petg Cf and glued together. After testing all components except esc were fully potted in epoxy. I made a fill and a vent hole in the top so I could inject epoxy after assembling.
Running a leopard 6362 105kv motor and a foil drive propeller. Have posted about the motor in the past on the forum. Been using the same one weekly for about 18 months with good results.

Thanks for the info - again, amazing work! So great to see.
Ahh… a 2 blade prop… I had read they can give longer runtime, particularly when motoring around a bit.
I have been using 12s2p p42a cells and only getting a measley 15 minutes runtime. So will try weaving some of your solution into mine.

Wondering if it might make sense to go to 14S for a battery this small. I know you don’t use Flipsky but the 6374 is rated to 16S and the 5085 to 14S. Clearly esc and VESC all cope with 14S. Higher voltage, less current and possibly more effective power as the voltage drops. I made two battery packs a while ago with identical cells 8S3P and 12S2P with Molicel P45’s, the 8S3P was for a friend with a Gen1 Foil Drive. Gave me the opportunity to directly compare them, the run time with the 12S2P was dramatically improved in a foil assist small wave environment. I don’t have hard number except the distance total distance covered, the 12S gave me approx 25% more distance until I was no longer able to get up on foil.
Interestingly after making the 8S3P for my buddy his original Gen1 died and I made him an equivalent new setup with an XCross 160, using the 8S3P battery packs he already owned. He found that the run time was far less with the XCross compared to the VESC that Foil Drive used in the Gen1. Seems that they really optimized the VESC settings to get maximum effective power right until the battery went too flat to allow a start. We are mucking around with Current Control and FOC with VESC tool right now to try to get the absolute most effective range, particularly relevant with these small packs.

I see that FoilDash are using 14S2P (454Wh) in as their max battery, compared to their standard battery which is 12S2P (388Wh).

It is easy if you have a strong enough spot welder. I am using an Awithz P60F model.
