Battery configuration

Hi team. Im building an efoil. Either 13s 10p or 10s 13p 21700 5000ma cells for the battery, what are your thoughts and why?
6kw 65161 motor flite board prop.
Im 100kg and not too interested in going very fast.

Personally I would go 14S.
Most efoil brands offer 14S too.
With higher voltage, you need less current.
This is why I would skip the 10S, 12S minimum, 14S prefered.
Benefits are a more efficient system , and a longer lasting battery.
Current is what puts the most strain on your system, so by having a higher voltage you can basically counter this.

I’ve been riding 14s for two years.

But if I were starting now, I’d go straight to 16s.

Higher voltage => lower current => less heat and less loss.

Regarding the cell supplier…

I agree. I’m also on 16S, but 14S is a bit safer I guess. The Samsung cells are pretty good. For my own builds I got the Reliance RS50’s. Pretty sweet deal via NKON in Europe.

There are quite a few people here using 10S11P packs successfully without issues. You should compare your cell specs to those before you go with 10S.

The packs were originally designed for robotics use but all they needed was to strip off the outer casing to allow them to fit in a Fliteboard hatch and some minor wiring.

In your case the 13P would give you greater range than 10P

Ultimately up to you to research here and make a decision that’s best for your build.

Both have the exact same amount of Wh so for range it does not matter. Only matters in terms of Voltage or current capability.
I do feel like a 10S will limit you in terms of speed rather soon. Better to increase the voltage

I run 10s11p and cruising at 30kmh is really nice and can go up to near 40 but I don’t like it that fast anyway. Nothing gets even barely warm. If I was building a battery from scratch I would probably go to 12-14s though.

I have been using the same 10S11P wit LG cells as others here have because it was an amazing deal on a very well built pack and it works fine. I get decent speed and I can foil over an hour going pretty fast or 1.5 hours going slower. But if I was to built my own pack I would probably go 14S8P with 2170 cells similar KW in terms of energy and a bit more speed and less amps in the phase wires. This is probably the ideal ratio but I haven’t tried it. The fact that most of the major brands use 14S is probably a good endorsement.
