As my mast had a solid plug that I didn’t want to smash out I made this( Still on the printer) This is a no cut mast method & a bulk head seal will require a lathe also some fibre glass work between top & bottom , you guys can work it out its just a demo of the method I am using . Fusion
I just realised I made mistake today. This is 100% my error nothing wrong with the product I purchased. I had made the assumption that a FR Propeller hub was solid. however upon review of the image I was provided prior to purchase of a unused spare FR Propeller. I found the hub has been optimised to fit the FR motor. That included removal of the material of the inner hub. As the propeller hub is not solid as i had expected. I will have a new issues to fit a standard FR propeller onto a Flipsky motor. I had been expecting I would be machining propeller anyway. But as the hub is hollow I will need to reconsider the process I will use. Not all FR Propellers are the same some are special orders that are not currently available. The propeller is still in the post so not sure of the solution to the new problem until it arrives on Monday.
Great build! Keep up the good work!
What are the dimensions of your board. It looks sweet!
Thanks, @wushbush I started with 1700x650x150> However I may of cut a bit off the ends, BUT this “BIG FAT LADY” is designed to get my “Little Brother” 6’4" ~ 90-100kg on a foil. Can I suggest 1600x600x120 is a more practical size. Some suggest even smaller, But the more buoyancy & bigger wing it will be easy-er for a beginner. Also consider the width of available Fibre glass , Carbon fibre or best of all Basalt Fibre.
Any Advice please on a standard FR propeller to fit a Flipsky 65161.
Has anyone cross drilled a Flipsky 65161 shaft ?
What is required to drill a Stainless steel propeller shaft?
?
I was very lucky & picked up a FR propeller but to get it to fit I need to add a new hole 10mm+ forward of the original,
Opening up the 6.2mm hole in the FR propeller will feel like vandalising a work of art.
How hard is it to drill a Flipsky propeller shaft?
Drill the hole to 8mm so that it fits over the 8mm thread.
Rather just put a spacer on the shaft so that it fits the existing prop pin hole.
Good concept, I would need to make a custom rear locking nut (edited that could be part of the spacer that you suggest) etc Thanks.
I don’t know how hard a flipsky shaft is to drill but I managed to drill my stainless steel shaft with a carbide drill bit. I used a 3d printed guide with an insert to guide the drill. It worked out.
Jezza, You got me thinking. I only got the propeller a few hours ago & I have hobby grade tools but could maybe integrate a spacer / Locking nut / drag reduction… into a composite Metal & 3D printed “Spacer”
To drill a 3mm hole with a carbide drill bit was quite easy, took 5 min with some oil for cooling. Took some time to think about how to hit the center and create the tool for it. For the tool you could use a little bearing, in your case with 4mm id, fit that in a tool that centers the shaft.
You can check with a file at the edge, how hard the shaft is.
Initially I think I actually said the pin slot needs to be deepened on the prop and then drill the hole out to 8mm. But your initial way would also work well. Just don’t heat the shaft too much when drilling that it would melt the seals…
You could just use a Barrel Nut. All you would need to do is drill the back of the prop to the diameter of the barrel nut. Get the prop on your lathe and you could get it to fit perfectly.
Perfect method, its cheap, simple & quick
You have inspired me to install my 7 inch pitch FR prop onto my Reachertech motor.
Only had to drill a 10mm hole through for barrel nut clearance. Easy!
Used a 25mm CSK barrel nut. Was a touch long but nylon washer made it good. Probably only need a 20mm.
What’s your amp consumption with that big Naish wing?
Dont really know. The Naish jet foils have a lower profile so they travel pretty quick. The one in the photo is a 1650cm2. This foil with my FR motor does about 38kph. That’s at about 70% throttle and I cant keep it under water anymore. 1h20m range with 14s14p 49Ah li-ion and a 2 blade folding FR prop.
The Reachertech 80kv 65161 gets 55min with 6 inch pitch FR prop. Top speed 32kph.
