Board leash and assist box placement

I’m wondering if board leashes and foil assist electronic boxes are getting in the way of each other for anyone. Especially with leash points being right behind the typical placement of the electronic box (for gen 1 faux drive type designs). So the box is between the leash point and your body. I don’t have practical experience with this issue, but since I’m building a new board or two with the intent of using a faux drive as well, I thought I’d ask. Might put a leash point elsewhere while I’m at it if it’s an issue.

Hey, speaking solely from my personal experiece.I have not used a board leash on my foil assist on flat water or up to 3’ waves. It has not been an issue yet. I don’t see it becoming an issue because it’s typically pretty clear if I’m going to fall in the waves because I’m moving too slow or turning too sharp and the board has never gone more than a few arm strokes away for recovery after a fall.

Thanks Jimmy. Makes sense for waves. In my case, recovery is a little more difficult with a wing pulling in the wind so feel better with the board leash. I’m sure it’ll be fine since I’m sure others are dealing with it just fine even when switching feet, etc.

I don’t use a leash since i normally efoil on flat water but i’ve had a board start surfing without me after a fall. Not nice for anyone close by. I think it’s mandatory to use leash if you’re around people.

I use an Oceanus reel leash all the time. Stays out of the way and brings the board back to me when I fall in. :grinning:

Oceanus reel leash for me too. Prone foiling and SUP foiling with and without assist. Works very well. No longer made though which is a shame.

I like that I can bailout far from board and not have to worry about catching up to the rig.

I have had a couple good sprints to get to my efoil after a crash in wind chop. Planning on using reel leash too.

+1 agreed, if you’re around people you need a leash. I try not to be within 50’ of anyone because it’s too easy to interact if you’re distracted for a few seconds while foiling.
