Hello everyone!
After I tried Efoil during my vacation in Thailand, I can’t sleep peacefully…
After studying the information, I came across multiple DIY builds that successfully give positive emotions )
I decided that I will try to DIY
My height is 185, weight 100 kg. In Thailand i ride LIFT4 efoil with 250 Surf V2 wing in the front… As i know Lift4 has something like 88 lit. of volume, so now i’m trying to do some CAD work around the board it will be 150-160cm length and around 60-65cm width, to get 85-90lit of volume.
For the underwater parts i also want to make some DIY wings and mast , but not sure about it.
How about Gong Foil X-Over V2 - Alu mast 85cm ? With XL (1650cm2) front wing ? If you have any comments or advice, I’d be happy to hear them.
For the motor, RX and ESC , i saw that Flipsky very popular in DIY builds there so i pick:
Flipsky VX3 Pro
Flipsky 70165 motor 120kv
Flipsky 75200 pro esc - i don’t sure, do i need water cooling ? weather in my region doesn’t go hi that 28c at the summer , and water also not warm a lot after winter …
Planning to DIY battery pack from 21700 li-io cells , don’t sure about capacity of it ? i think that 12s will be nice choice.
in the end…
I have a great desire, but there are a lot of questions now and I am sure that they will appear during that project
I will be glad for any help and advice
That’s sounds like a good plan I built mine with the Flipsky 65161, 7200 controller and Gong X-Over L you are heavier than me so XL should be good. Building a board with a 100% watertight compartment is very hard. Several of us bought a Fliteboard board and installed the components in there. We found already made high quality battery packs in battery surplus place maybe look into that before you make it from scratch.
@Windigo did you ever try the M Size. I got a takuma before with 1300cm².Now I ordered the M Size to go a bit lower. But still no option to try it myself.
No never tried the M size only L and Veloce XL. I also kitefoil and I have many smaller wings but for an efoil you need a bigger wing bacause the foil itself is heavy. Some people ride very small wings but you need a lot of speed to get going so it’s going to be harder to learn going really fast.
Hobbywing SEAKING 200A HV V4 , maybe someone had experience with such ESC? I didn’t find it in the search
Looking by the technical characteristics, everything should be fine
Why don’t you want to get the Flipsky ESC made for your motor. If you buy a package from Flipsky it all fits together it comes with the Bluetooth module to talk to the controller pre wired you just plug it in. The remote display information from the motor and ESC like temperature state of the battery etc… If you buy another ESC that nobody uses you will have to figure out how to make it work with the remote assuming it’s even possible.
I don’t recall anyone here posting about the V3 X-over so you might not get a direct answer based on hands on experience.
It looks like Gong just evolved the foil shape and changed the fuse on V3 so likely not a lot of difference between the two that a beginner would notice.
Up to you if you want to spend extra $ for newest version based on how Gong describes what they changed.
@kir the main advantage for the v2 is that you get nearly every adapter and mount you need here in the forum already designed and tested for efoil and foil drive.
I planned to buy size XL of V2 - 1656 cm2
But now if I choose V3 XL, it is only 1410 cm2, is it ok, or should I choose size XXL with 1747 cm2? I found some information in this community that above 1500cm2 , it is not a good idea…
The new wings are smaller but they have the lift producing shape throughout the full length of the wing so they are supposed to produce as much lift and be equivalent in size but smaller and more fun. At least that’s the theory but I haven’t tried.
Yes I have seen a lot of positive feedback about this propeller but it seems that Flite does not ship to Asia, I have written to their support but have not received a response yet…
