So I decided in order to speed up a waist assist build, id buy the duotone harness and assist box. Really glad I did as the quality is fantastic and and it’s incredibly comfortable. This is what comes with it:
Dimensions of the opening start at 150 x 63mm and then taper down slightly towards the bottom where its around 144 x 57mm. I will get a pic of some 21700 inside it for ref shortly and add it here too…
I’ve already torn the box down slightly so that I can replace the connector with something different and also place the esc at the bottom of the unit.
You can order every duotone spare off the shelf.
Waist harness was £99 and the box was £169 with the neoprene cover. I think for the quality it’s actually a fair price.
How do you plan to fit the controller? Can you fit it in the box and have passive cooling with heatsink? Do you have some rough measures on the internal space of the box?
Very interesting, getting the harness and box sorted is a huge part of the back pack journey. So they run 12S batt voltage down the curly cord, I’m sure they had their reasons. Maybe cooling the esc, but seems like a very long full current power run.
I’ve always liked the fact that if it all goes wrong with cable getting ripped apart if it’s only the phase wires and the trigger isn’t being pulled there is very little current running to the motor.
@Jezza could you please measure the inside dimensions of the batterie box? Your idea is fantastic. But want to know which batteries would fit the box. Thank you very much!
Sounds cool! How are you thinking of running the 3 phase wires from the waist to the motor especially given that they will probably need to also act as your board leash? Is it feasible to just chop up an SUP leash and see if you can run 3 12 gauge silicone wires through it?
Going to run a 3 phase coil cable with a separate leash. I could buy the duotone leash as its only £34, but their cable is insanely expensive.
I debated running a coil leash and then a cable in a pulley system in the middle, while it works in my head it may be problematic in practice.
First things is getting the ESC sorted and then the cable is easy to be fair.

Super cool. I was considering a waist harness build but went backpack instead… because my drybox fit my backpack :). My vesc is in a seperate aluminum box and has no heat issues when running on efoil mode - although the separate box does make things heavy). I never considered duotone might sell these in parts off the shelf. The dry box was always my biggest concern. Can’t wait to see how the build goes
I replaced all the Cnlinko connectors on my tow boogies with these. I’m very happy with them; they’re quick-release and provide a good seal. Unlike the CNlinko, they’re 100% secure.
