Hi,
I’m getting into pump foiling, but it’s tough—and with three young kids, time on the water is limited. To help bridge the learning curve, I’m considering adding some assist to my foil. I looked at a FoilDrive, but at £2.7k it’s steep. The cheaper AliExpress option is still around £1.6k.
Any other tips or alternatives you’d recommend?
Thanks,
D
Hello, the electric to pump is a idea I also had, I went diy for mych cheaper but also few iterations to get it right.
I am not sure the assist saved me much time in learinng to pump foil. I would suggest to spend more money into a good known quality set or lessons.
Now you can buy for guanyong png 1300v1 or png 1310 copies with carbon mast for a very good price, those are known to work designs for beginner and advanced foilers. Takoon pump / pump pro also good option.
The assist really helped me for downwinding and surf. But for pump and basic foil abilities, not so much. The most helpfull was to have a supportive local crew to get each other motivated to progress.
The only thing the assist is really good for is if you have no dock available.
This is one of those " no shortcuts" situation !
For me my tow boogie improved my foil skills the most. And it is also the most fun. A assist without waves is boring very fast…
