Some info that might be useful for others.
I have been using the Maytech remote for my diy efoil for a few years, and was never happy with it primarily due to how hard the screen is to read in bright daylight, so have been looking for alternatives. Recently I got my hands on Foil Drive V3 remote, my observation from the first few session with it:
- no issues connecting at all to the Maytech receiver, setup took only a few mins
- the screen is way better, easier to see
- the 5 gears are easily configurable, and very intuitive to use (my favorite new feature, really easy to adjust gears with trigger at 100%)
- VESC telemetry works, battery voltage is being reported correctly on the remote
- battery configuration options are only for 6S, 8S, 11S and 12S, which is less than ideal for my 10S setup, but this does not impact functionality, only the battery percentage displayed on the main screen
- the remote is noticeably larger (and much heavier after you dunk in the water)
- integrated GPS feature is flaky, most of the time the max speed and distance traveled seems to be way off
Overall it seems like a solid option for those looking for a remote upgrade.
I have not connected the remote to FD app, nor have I updated the firmware.
If someone knows of a way to configure it for a 10S battery, please let me know.
