Flipsky 65150 2 in 1 project

Ok, so a buddy just gave me this motor for free. I
don’t have high expectations for the power, but wanna see what it can do. It’s only rated for like 30a’s. So, I just threw some stuff together so I can put it on a boogie. Gonna run 12s2p P45’s in an extra foil drive box I had laying around. I figure I can at least use it to tow out to our break here, which is a few thousand meters off the beach and save foil drive battery or if I just feel like prone foiling so I don’t forget how to paddle into a wave. I gotta build the battery tonight and then throw it all on a boogie, so maybe tomorrow run some trials or might have to wait til next weekend.

I was rushing so I didn’t add anything to make sure I don’t hook up the battery leads wrong, but I’m gonna fix that.

Tried it out today and it is not very powerful. I towed with my 56l board on my belly and could only get 4mph with VESC turned up to 100A and abs max to 150A which far exceeds the published capabilities. It came with a small 3 blade prop from flipsky, so maybe a different prop would help.

It’ll work great just as a taxi out to the waves and drop anchor.

Because this motor is so weak I decided to pull it apart and change the speed controller to something with a little more giddy up and see what happens. I took it apart today and started cleaning it up. It is slap full of grease, not sure what kind, but it’s messy.

Hooked this motor up to my faux drive setup, may tech 100a Vesc, and has tons of power. I could only get to 40-50% throttle and it would climb out of the water because the boogie board is just too light. I am trying to figure out a different prop, but haven’t had much luck searching through the forum for one with a 10mm shaft and its just got a hole running through the side for like an m3 bolt to attach it to the shaft. Also gotta figure out how to keep the setup planted in the water better. Probably move the motor a little forward and extend my rope attachment point back further.
