Flipsky 65161 100KV or 120KV

I’ve seen a few posts on the 100KV vs 120KV topic, but I’m still not sure what the correct answer is, and maybe things have changed with newer setups in 2026.

I’m ~170 lbs and looking to build my first DIY eFoil.

My current plan is:

  • Motor: Flipsky 65161, deciding between 100KV and 120KV
  • Battery: Most likely 14S
  • ESC: Flipsky 75200 water-cooled
  • Rider weight: ~170 lbs
  • Prop: I’d like to experiment with different props, potentially including 3D-printed props
  • Shaft: Leaning toward the 12 mm threaded/round shaft for more prop options
  • Target speed: Not sure yet. I’m more interested in a good balance of easy takeoff, efficiency, and reasonable top speed rather than chasing maximum speed.

From what I’ve read, the arguments seem to be:

  • 100KV: More torque per amp and potentially better suited to larger props.
  • 120KV: The 65161 should have plenty of torque anyway, and the higher KV gives more RPM/headroom, especially on 14S.

Can any users help me decide on which version of the motor to get? Any info would help!

From what I’ve read, there isn’t a noticeable difference if you’re not going full throttle. 65161 120kv with the fliteprop is a good match. I can cruise efficiently at around 1.2kW and 12 knots. I weigh 90kg and use GONG Ascent XL

Generally go with the cheapest option or if same price, go with 120kV, since it gives you more speed options and the efficiency gain of going from 120kV to 100kV is so little, it’s not worth it.

And definitely threaded round shaft for prop compatibility

i have the 120Kv , 14S battery and flite prop (and also fipsky fold prop) woks fine and all balaced
