Flipsky 65220 with integrated esc issue

My 65220 20s5p battery diy efoil performs great at wide open throttle taking off ( medium setting on vx3) but when cruising speed 18 kph light throttle it has what feels like a stutter or micro cutouts in the motor.

Its audible and you can feel it

Best way to describe it is like a car with random engine misfire.

Any thoughts?

Could be bad motor calibration or water in one or multiple of the phase wires causing interference

Did you update the FW of the VESC?
I noticed small stutters when idling after upgrading and doing the foc motor calibration therefore i switched back to the FW that was originally there.

Claude ai helped me figure it out.
Adjusting the openloop erpm from 1000 to 4000 cured my stuttering.

So that means the FOC regulation (therefore motor calibration) at lower RPM is the problem…
Setting this value to 4000 means that basically all the time the VESC runs in openloop now, like a “normal” ESC does
You can run it like that, but it does not really solve the problem, just hide it (which can be fine, but then you could also have bougth a “normal” ESC or set the regulation type to BLDC instead of FOC
Proper motor calibration would solve this and make the FOC (closed loop) regulation more stable

Sorry, I’m in learning stages of esc programming

Are you suggesting i update and go through calibration again?

I’m cool with that, I’d prefer it fixed, not a bandaid , just double checking your suggestion

I suggest you do the motor calibration step again.
Generally if you are new to VESC, I can offer you this video

It should hopefully explain some of the steps that should be taken and what they do

I strongly advise against updating the FW, thats why i aked you. I believe you already updated the FW on the VESC.
