I had potted my Vesc before putting in the water and have had no water ingress into the waterproof box so don’t believe my issue is abuse related unless I have used incorrect setting from motor setup wizards.
Hi Ludwig
I reset everything back to base settings and started again. Then loaded firmware update and the errors are still occurring for both FOC and BLDC.
My new Vesc (same model) has arrived so I’ll solder the connection on tomorrow and hopefully do a setup on that one with the same motor and battery and see what results I get.
Flipsky seem to have disappeared in their responses to my questions but hopefully they will re-engage tomorrow.
Did you try to run detection without a motor connected? If so, does that also fail?
Hi Ludwig
I ran the detection without a motor connected. It took longer to come up with a fail. But it just said Bad Detection Result Received. Detection failed. Not the over current message.
I now have connected a new Vesc borrowed off a friend and have gone through the setup wizards and everything works perfectly. Something has definitely failed in that other Vesc. Totally paranoid now that something in my setting has caused the issue. I can’t be that unlucky to have both Flipsky bits fail so quickly. Mind you my VX3 worked last night and now says it has no charge and powers off even though when on charge is says 98% charged.
VX3 failing is so common, it would be more suspicious if yours survived for a long time ![]()
I say desolder the power board pins from the logic board and investigate whats happened underneath.
Every thing I have read from the esk8 forums suggests poor connection on phase wires if all the settings are correct. Also check your phase wires on the ESC for any cuts etc as they run very close together.
Flipsky have asked for the Vesc back so they can repair it. So I’ll see what info that reveals. I have no idea what to look for in all that stuff (not very experienced in this arena) just getting let down by products made by third parties. A bit annoying as I am taking so much care to not stuff it up and to have all these failures is a bit demoralising. At least my Saite motors are working well enough atm. Touch wood.
Didn’t you mention that you potted the VESC? How is Flipsky going to get into it?
I can identify with your frustration as I’ve been there at the beginning as well as lots of others here ![]()
Something to keep in mind is that you are developing build and troubleshooting skills and hopefully a reliable rig that is far less expensive than a commercial product such as FoilDrive which could also fail and frustrate you.
There has been a flurry of VX3 “PRO” failure reports but relatively few on the original VX3.
Have you considering trying it?
VX3 $95 VX3 pro $110 differences
The other remote possibilities is the BreRemote that is well supported here or perhaps the new Flipsky VX5 (a few of us have them and no reports of issues so far)
Hang in there!!![]()
