Fliteboard true glide propeller for 65161

I have been using the flite prop on my flipsky 65161 120kv in a 12 setup and its great.

Has anyone tried the true glide? Just wondering how you compare that to the foldy offerings. Might be a little more techy to get the hole bored for the shaft on the metal bushing I see.

Or finding a thinner Inner Diam bearing and adding a sleeve…

Hi, Did you try any other prop. I run a FR prop and was wondering how the fliteboarod prop would go?
If you have was there much difference?

I only tried the fliteboard and a cut down original that came with the motor. The fb prop way better.

Can anyone explain how the mechanism in the bearing for this prop works?

Like free spin in a bicycle wheel.

Or the one way bearing like they use on RC helicopters

Called a clutch or sprag bearing. Lots available, just need to make sure they are 316 stailess.

There’s no real advantage of the true glide prop as can be demonstrated by fliteboard putting folding props on their newer wave riding efoils.

Thanks found this simple YouTube that explains it well.:grinning:

@Jezza

I’m considering making a TrueGlide “clone” for my 65161 motor. I use a normal Flite prop to ride Efoil mode and really like it. Last season I started playing around in the non breaking section of boat wakes and some small wind driven waves.

The value of TrueGlide to me is that it will work just like what I’m used to when powered but if I encounter a sea state during a session that lets me try out unpowered riding I just release the throttle. The extra drag of the free wheeling prop vs foldy type isn’t a concern I have.

The Flite foldy is an elegant design - kinda spendy though😀

I also made a Trueglide for the 65161. I turned it on the lathe and it works perfectly, but no comparison with the Foldy in boat waves.
The annoying thing is that David, who makes the props for Flite, sold the exact same prop 2 years ago for 230€ including tax and shipping. Luckily I still have one.

The Trueglide on the Flite store is $190 USA compared to the $435 for foldy.

@vincent Interesting that you made one!

Can you provide some detail on how you did that?

You can also get a folding prop made for the 65161 from Flying Rodeo, probably for a bit less than that True Glide prop and undoubtedly better glide performance. There is probably some shipping cost but probably would come in less than $190USD.

Yes Flite products are relatively expensive for sure.

Not really wanting a folding prop. Most of the time I just want to foil around on flat water but to challenge myself a bit occasionally I would like to play around in some easy wave conditions. I’m not going to go out with the intention of seeking out wave conditions where a foldy would be required/desired.

I’m also looking for a winter project and have a good 3D printer and a good model of the existing standard Flite prop. Simply put I would just need the correct bearing and shaft pin locator to turn that into a Trueglide clone. Likely more challenging than that but the water where I foil has turned solid so won’t be going for any sessions for quite some time. :grinning:

Why not do a 3 blade folding prop? Best of both worlds then and no other fliteboarders are riding it.

It’s more me wanting to stay in the skill set I have. Not sure I could or even want to try to get a relatively complex 3D design to work properly and not fail and leave me stranded.

Making some minor edits to the Flite clone model to accommodate a bearing is something I think I can do.

With the fixed blade prop if the bearing seizes it’s no big deal as it will just be a “normal” prop for me.

The other reason is that for a folding prop I assume that the blades would not be exactly like the Flite standard “Spock ear” ones so that would force me to adapt to a new prop. Not that that would be impossible or likely even that different but I’m sort of locked onto what I know I can ride now. The Trueglide is about as close as I can get and be able to get a feel for unpowered foiling.

Thanks for the idea though.:grinning:
