Hey guys, I know this will have been asked a number of times but as there are so many chats and threads to read through I wanted to ask the question again….especially as more and more equipment available now and people tried and tested.
We have a number of different foils for kite, wing amd now starting down winding. However we have a lot of very flat days here with no wind so wanting to build a foil assist to get more time on the water. Foil drives look great… but out of the price range so hoping can build one cheaper.
I’m pretty good with electrics, robotics and 3D printing… but the equipment choice is tricky
Plan is to start with putting it on a wing board or DW board with a huge 2145 aero glide foil so doesn’t need much speed to get it engaged.
Yes, we could simply just work on dock starting but we have no dock here either…… unless we put the boat in and use that, but that’s another thing to arrange
My question is based on your experience which motor, battery pack and ESC, remote would you recommend if starting out a fresh
For flat days, If you already have the equipement and some of the skills, I would suggest to go straight for unassisted pumping, with building or installing a dock or ladder.
I find flat water assist/efoil to be quite boring. The motor helped me build the foil skills I did not have for pumping.
Now I use the assist mostly for downwind and surf, with an occasionnal assist pump session.
I am not sure the motor can be used for paddle ups, I tried a few times but Sync both was not easy, maybe it’s just skills. I go paddle without motor or motor without paddle. But others combine both with paddle mounts for the trigger.
I have files available for the light system i’m using, but maybe not the best system for a first build, and definitely not the right system for e-foil use.

Unfortunately we don’t have the option for a dock here as our tides are huge…. 8m.
We have built a ladder platform which fits for dock starting but wanting to build something like you have there to assist getting flight and then can work in the pumping technique.
If you could share your set up please that would be great!!
