Hi folks, I’m selling my foil assist, due to recent purchase of an underboard FD.
This faux drive far exceeded my expectations when I built it, performing better than my mate’s genuine FD assist plus. Everything is a little over-engineered and the use of thicker cables etc means I could Efoil for 30 mins with no overheating problems.
Everything in the pictures is included, and there are multiple extras, plugs, solder, heat shrink tube, perspex for mounting box to board, etc.
There are 2 motors both with the shaft already shortened. The used motor looks almost new due to “corrosion X” usage - that stuff is magic!
Why a kit? After working perfectly for a year, the motor is shuddering and will not power up. I suspect the VESC has failed, or possibly corrosion in motor cable. The battery is excellent, the remote is only a couple of months old and both motors are fine.
To get on the water you will need to install the brand new VESC (included) and possibly replace the main power cable to motor (also included). The board was used by me at 85kg and a 1300cm2 wing and worked great. There is a knee sized crack on the rail which will need patching, but board is dry.
The battery is in excellent condition 8s3p - professionally made and fully sealed in silicone with a high quality BMS. It has approx. 50 cycles and the high quality Molicel batteries are good for well over 500 charges, if treated well (as this has been).
The carbon infused engine mount is for Axis mast and is light and strong (printed by a guy who makes custom carbon parts). The prop needs finishing (sanding and then resin depending on who you believe)
Unfortunately, I don’t have time to install and setup the VESC, cable and remote. The physical install is pretty fast, but there is always a bit of frustration setting up the VESC and getting the controller to work nicely. Likewise, the phone app to make changes to your system limits using your phone Bluetooth. There’s lots of help here on foilzone and vids on you-tube etc.
If you are thinking of building a faux drive this one is 95% complete and a proven combination of parts.
