Foil swap - 3d files foil parts exchange

hi guys.Does anyone think this has any future?

FoilExchange is a collaborative platform for sharing 3d STL files of hydrofoil parts.

wishlist:

How it works

Request a hydrofoil part you need and community members will connect for exchanging or creating the 3D file.

Community Rules

Each approved upload gives you 1 download. With 10 approved uploads, you unlock unlimited downloads. All submissions go through moderation before appearing in the catalog. Duplicate, corrupted, or non-hydrofoil files are not allowed. Respect other members and contribute with quality.

I accept suggestions

Great idea… Can’t register though, getting a white screen when trying. Tried MS edge, Firefox and Chrome.

I do not really love the base idea anyway.

But the math simply does not work.
The actual number of parts needed is pretty small.

So system will either be full of trash no one needs or your bar for approval is so high, no one will be able to download.

Well, centralizing all the mast profiles, the baseplates, the pods or even props in one place would be ideal as finding them in the forum can currently be a daunting task…
Agree with you though on the need for approval/validation

Hi. What do you suggest? Often, a file that might be junk to you could be useful to someone else?

Hi, thank you for the feedback. Did you try logging in with a regular email or with Google?

I have no idea.
This is the same issue people had, when filesharing sites were a thing.

If you have this and its valuable for people, they will gather all the free stuff they can get to upload it, so they can download.

And once everything is there, those will have unlimited access, while no one new will be able to download anything.

try again. thank you.

So your “issue” isn’t with sharing 3D files, but rather on the “How” it is done ?
I kinda agree with you

@ericmsill I was able to connect, thanks

Sharing your own files → great.
Sharing files someone else uploded somewhere so you can get access → pretty borderline.
I imagine many people would not be happy and consider simply not sharing anything anymore.

Sharing commercial designs → not sure.

There are real people working there with real jobs.
I am probably opportunistic enough, that I would use them, but its really not a great idea. Especially in a niche market like foiling.

I agree and I really care about the patent part. I just wish DIY users could have access to some similar models or ones that fit certain foil brands.
