Frankenstow single 70165

Hello,

Carrying on my tow boogie voyage. After the dual motor tow dinghy, I had the opportunity to catch an empty Zerotow hull a good friend had . He did a real massacre on the zip so changed for a new hull. I succeded to repair the zip with a new slider thanks to the german supplier Tizip and a few hours of work with dual component pvc glue.

For the steering system I did not try to copy the amazing work of @Strongarm (pivoting pod), I went for an easier 70kg servo/rudder solution bringing down the actuator force needed . I had to bring the propeller 7cm forward but doesn’t seem to have a big effect. Centre propeller 17.5cm deep as original.

I opted for a Flipsky 70165, Sequre 14200 PRO Escape 32 esc and a Nelo surfski carbon rudder. Original alu box and battery inside (14S12P with BMS). The electrical box takes all the trust of propeller. It is blocked with side retaining angle bar under the inflatable part inside the boogie.

First build with a rudder. Easy to set with @ludwig_bre Bremote V2, possible to trim it when not perfectly positionned. I need a bit of constant right steering (around 10 degrees) to go straight. The rudder was too big at the beginning so I got a constant list on portside and excess list on take off. I chopped the rudder to avoid being caught by the waterflow and obtained a way better behaviour. I still have a portside slight list so I added 2kg weight on starboard (it would have been not necessary if I’d angled the ASA motor pod at 2 degrees to starboard)

Nice work and great find on that zerotow hull. How do you like it compared to the dhingy? i’m building a dhingy version too (dual motor) with an inflatable top (similar to Mark’s design) and really like the V shape alu hull. Any advice or things to avoid?

For the moment there is no wave at home so impossible to give a real answer.

Things to focus for Highfield tow dinghy ?
Put battery as far forward as possible (vertical)
Tow point fixed on bottom of V
Magic gel on alu mast to avoid water entrance in hull or increase length of mast inside the hull.

Nice work. How did you find the run time with the Flipsky 70165 (150A max 75A continuous) and the 14s12p battery? How much do you weigh? I am considering using a similar battery and motor setup, I weigh 75kg.

Hello , my weight is 88kg. I rode today my first surf session with it, it was tiny so a bit of motoring. After 4 hours, I had 15% battery left (3.5V). I limited to 120 amp
