Inspired by your builds, and frankly because it seems that sometimes for some of us, when it works you start thinking about the next project, i wanted to show you my tow boogey.
I wanted to keep it simple, and it’s called “scratchy”, because the board has been in my basement for a decade where stray cats went feral on it.
I mainly tried to use all the parts left over from my efoil journey:
Two 6384, flycolors 80A esc, a bremote kit ( that’s new).
I use the same battery than my efoil 12s8P. So i can choose my horse for the day.
It works reasonably well. I haven’t tested it much because rain have kept us grounded for the past 5 weeks.
A lot of nose up at the begining, solved by a long pole at the rear.
The Esc are glued in an aluminium box, which is on contact with ocean water.
It oscillates on the roling axis, and pool noodles have been added to the rear to make it squarer, I have yet to test it.
Small update
A friend lent me a proper tow rope with handle, the difference with my diy fitness handle/paracord rope is immense.
A proper handle is way more confortable, and less tiring, and the extra lenght in floating rope makes the foiling way better.
I put the motors up in the middle of my masts, and i found that the board expresses less “rodeo/nose up”.
All in all it works quite well. But it is TIRING, compared to a regular e-foil session.
I am only able to waterstart a big wingfoil board (110L). I can almost stand on it at a rest so its easy and confortable. My smaller prone foil board ( narrow,55L) is almost impossible to start. From knees to standing I Always fall due to the board rolling away.
I noticed that the bremote in my back hand prevents me from grabing and stabilizing the board under my feet during the transition.
Next time i will try to hold the bremote and tow handle in the same hand.
If I were able to, i would improve the hull to have better wave piercing, and on the stiffnes of the unit.
so cool! way ahead of my first tow boogie man well done!
Ive found that bigger wider foil boards really ‘slick’ to the water when your trying to launch to foil…
im loving my oarawing board for easy etow sessions -
its 64 x 19 x 82 litres - far less drag on the arm to get up
Are you using the breMote for bulldozer type steering?
love to hear tour experience
I did a lot of work testing this - had some success and some failures as with all development on these craft…
Whoa that’s a neat idea ! So it makes a handle. Very cool. Can you share your file please ? I’m not the best at curves on tinkercad. I will try your idea
Thanks ! Its a good feeling to see it working after so much time in your head .
I love the way your bogan tow slices trough chop. I really want to emulate that, but i like to compactness and simplicity of the boogey.
Considering the bulldozer steering😅 I used to think that it was only usable to bring the tow back to me. But with my new heavy long rope, the inerent slack it provides allows the bogey to be steered while foiling behind. Pretty useful sometimes
