Hi,
I spent the first half of the summer rebuilding all the electronics and fitting a new Gong Allvator V1 80cm mast on my e-foil. I replaced my 65cm one to get some more playroom. Today was my second ride with the new setup and after some riding and maybe 4 crashes I noticed that the mast was crooked after putting it up on a dock.
Now I don’t know what to do. Go back to 65 or upgrade everything to V3 or V2? Has anyone experienced anything similar? Nothing unusual that I can pinpoint the damage to.
There are some older posts here stating the V1 mast was too flexible with eventual conversion to V2. Obviously the longer the mast the more flex there would be. It would appear that limitation is what has happened in your case causing the bent mast.
I used resin to attach my mast to mast base on my V2 mast (in addition to the screws😀) to ensure there is no play there
I was afraid that was the case. I guess I will have to do a quick swap to the old 65cm and do the V2 upgrade this winter instead.
That sounds very good! I was thinking of a good solution for that, because I did notice some play last year.
Bend is usually right at the top.
You can just cut that part off and retap.
Maybe that gets you a 72cm or so.
Yeah I was thinking about that also. But it would be a little more work than just switching back to the 65. Maybe I will find the motivation to do it next week. ![]()
If you have a chop saw and a m6 tap available, it takes about 5 minutes.
When I was still using that mast I felt like I had to do it almost daily
Always start with the 90 and work yourself slowly down to 55.
