Has anyone successfully used the Flipsky FSESC 75200 with the FS65161 motor?

Yep, same here.
@3rd_ave_Lien what did you think the issue might be?

So, I’m not a motor specialist. (My husband is the one designing our own ESC, we won’t be using the Flipsky one).

We think the problem with our friend’s Flipsky ESC is due to some synchronization issue: since there is no sensor, the ESC figures out the current position of the motor using the Back EMF. This can lead to problems. If for some reason the ESC falls out of sync with the motor, it can get itself in some instable kind of groove. This can happen if the ESC gives too much “juice” for a given RPM and the motor overtakes its target position.

It might be motor dependent.

Or it might be a bad configuration of the ESC. We’d like to get configuration files from someone who got it to work properly… But so far, no luck.

Yeah, unfortunately I don’t have configs to give you either, since I haven’t tested it with full power yet. It is possible to tune the saturation compensation, try 10% or 15%. You can also try to increase FOC observer gain. Some people had luck with 30->60.

Benjamin also noted in the VESC forum about their 75/300:

“One known issue with the 75/300 is that is measures the flux linkage too high on some motors. Try decreasing the flux linkage with 5 - 50% and see if it helps.”

Golden information there. I’ll hopefully be able to see if this can help on Monday. :+1:

Keep up posted !

here’s one thing that doesn’t please me, I was about to order the 75/200 from Flipsky but if it doesn’t work well with their 65161 engine I’m cooled down… what do you advise as a reliable VSC ?

My friend bought the FS65161 + ESC75200 + remote directly from Flipsky and they don’t work together (or at least, we haven’t been able to make it work). Sorry, I don’t have any advice, since this is my first build. But I think many people on this forum are using the FS65161 motor

Yes, a lot of people use them and I’ll wait for their advice when it comes to the choice of vesc. My first foil was with a water cooled esc and so far no problem.

Because I’m running BLDC I think I’m coming to the conclusion that adjusting these values may make no difference?
After detection the motors won’t run in FOC mode so we used BLDC. On the bench they run almost fine but stutter under load.
I’ll see if I can get them running tomorrow on FOC by adjusting observer gain, sat compensation, switching frequency and flux linkage.

Yes, you might be on to something: for that motor, anything that would be more stable would help, so FOC might work better.

My flier ESC finally died. I love my Trampa 75/300, but didn’t want to spend that much, so I got the flipsky 75/200.

I’ll let you know how it works. But, I wouldn’t see why it wouldn’t. It’s just a pain in the ass setting a VESC up correctly. I had a lot of problems with my 75/300. But, it was my first VESC and once I got the settings all correct it works great.

Flightjunkie, where on all of these threads do you have the settings for the Trampa 75/300? I am going to try that tomorrow. I also have the Flipsky but am waiting for someone with more experience to work it out. Am I right that it can not handle 14S?
I just got the Flipsky Remote Version 3 that should be completely waterproof. I will open it up and send photos to show how it was done.

The 75200 VESC can handle 75v, 16s. It’s printed right on it. So, 14s (59v max) is fine.

I am no expert at VESC settings, but there are several threads on this forum discussing how to set one up.

Post questions if you have problems.

When are you going to try it? I am very eager to hear about the result, and learn about the configuration that’s needed to make it work. My friend is about to send his 75200 back to Flipsky!

The strange thing is that he bought the kit (motor+ESC+remote) from Flipksky and they were not able to explain to him how to make it work. They agreed to give him a refund. Isn’t that weird?

It’s weird.
I’m a vet at setting up vesc for electric skateboards. But this thing. :sob:
I have fiddled again this morning and have some improvements. I’ve turned on sample in v0 and V7? And slightly lowered motor flux linkage.

So I’ve switched to foc and with these settings it’s running better through the rev range.
(All land based no load)
If you’re heavy with the throttle on startup the motors will have a fit and jam still. With the throttle eased on and prop turning the Rev range seems great with no hiccups even when mashing the throttle. Time will tell when the weather clears and we can get it into the water.

Hi, I am new to this forum and building efoils. I was wondering since the combo you are talking about is on Flipsky for around 800$ with the new VX3 remote. what’s are your thoughts on it, is it a really bad idea to buy it, or I good one

Thanks

Well, they say they’ve fixed the problems were encountering…
Possibly there will be people receiving the new version soon who could give their opinion.

I think the combo is too expensive, just get the motor from banggood and the vesc from hgltech. The propeller is too big anyways.

Wait until there are some reports of a working setup. It’s really poor that Flipsky sells a combo for $$$ without testing under load.
My husband (who is designing our ESC) is of the opinion that these motors (FS65161 and similar Maytech) have a design flaw.

I agree. There is a price war on the motors, so the sellers are trying to recoup with the ESC.
On the other hand, if you buy the combo, you have a good case for complaining if it doesn’t work.
