Just another Foil-Assist from south Germany

Started building another Foil-Assist today:

Flipsky waterproof 6384
Flycolor X-cross 160A
6 * Fullsend 4000mAh 6S/1P ( together as 12S/3P)
Battery box: Camdenbox CHDX8-322C
Alubox for electronics: BOXEXPERT Aluminium Industrial Enclosure Alster 150x64x34mm
Motorpod von Kparts
Foildrive 3 Blade Prop

First things first- I needed to drill 4 holes and tap them to be able to mount the Foildriveprop to the Flipsky motor.

Because of the 6 batteries there is not enough space for the electronics in the box - so I put them in an extra box (Sidewinderidea by Oli from @Beenee-foilsports). This aluminium box also serves as a thermal mass to cool the esc.

I added a piece of aluminium to distribute the heat from the ESC faster. ESC will be glued onto with thermal glue.

At the moment I´m planing the Batteryconnections. As I´m using 6 Lipos 6S/1P I connect them first into 2 6S/3P with an Adapter and then together to 12S/3P. I´m not shure what I have to do with the Balancecables when the Lipo is in my Foil Assist- Do I have to connect them also in a way?
When I`m charging the packs , I have a ParallelAdapter, where I can plug in the XT60 and the Balancingwires.

Thanks!

You don’t need to connect them. If you want, you can connect a LiPo beeper (just to one) to get an alarm when cell voltage is going below a setable threshold, i.e. 3.4V. Starts to beep when one cell of the connected pack reached 3.4V.

Today was “solderday…”

Everything is connected. Batterys are full, the Remote is paired and I see a red light.

I pulled the trigger and nothing happend.
I measured the connections- Power is connected to the ESC.
I did not programm the ESC- do I have to?

Thanks…

You can quickly calibrate the remote (which sets max and min throttle) with the instructions (The Calibration Process with PWM Receiver) https://oscarliang.com/how-to-calibrate-esc/

Are you getting this sequence of beeps when powering on the ESC ?

The ESC is not beeping :frowning: Seams to be dead? Is there something I cam measure somewhrer to proof if the esc is dead?

Are you getting the first 3 beeps? Motor needs to be connected when you power on.

Motor is connected, but I get no beeps. I measured the powerconnection- 49,1V .
Can I somehow measure the motor or the esc if it is not damaged?
Thanks!

Looks like you have a Maytech remote, are you getting a connection to that?

Yes, the remote is pairing, I can read the voltage from the battery, I set the Vesc Thr. to none, the Data source to motor cable, The thr. mode to surfboard,
When I push the trigger nothing happens…

Vesc Thr? Your controller x-cross is BLHeli not VESC. You need to configure the esc using BLHeli software.

I had an issue where my ESC where my throttle signal wasn’t detected, I then manually set the throttle max and min and it worked, but I was also playing around so can’t 100% it was that. See settings here. Recommend you try copy a known config like this one for testing. ESC Flycolor X Cross HV3 settings on BlHeli 32 - #52 by kkolli Once you set them within the right ballpark values, then you can do a throttle calibration.

@Mazdautel I think this is a Maytech remote setting, not ESC.

Oh, yes, these where the remote settings. Actually I did not programm the ESC yet with BL Heli32- maybe this is the problem? The ESC is “out of the box”…
I have a Arduino Mini I can take to program the Esc tomorrow. Sorry- I´m not an RC-Guy, I´m a blacksmith
Thank you!

I connected a arduino Nano with GND and D3 connected to the ESC ( GND and with the BLHelisuit 32 and flashed it sucessfully. I can´t connect to the Flycolor ESC:

As there is no signal from the ESC I´m thinking more and more the ESC is dead.
