LordCiba's Second Build: The 'Chino-Brazilian Backpack Foil Assist'!

Hi Lads,

Dropping a quick post to say hello to all members of this amazing community and to share my successful second build: My Backpack Foil assist.

My pumping and surfings skills are just lame and E-foil is really my cup of tea. However, I came up with this build and design for a friend (professional board maker) in swap for a new board. So here we go:

Hardware

  • Mini FSESC6.8 Flipksy IP68 150A VESC;
  • 12S2P Salvaged 21700 from vapes or wathever, with a built in 12sDaly Active Balancer on the pack ;
  • Flipksy VX3 (with a female condom on it, as this remote’s waterproofness is just shite);
  • Flipksy Vesc Bluetooth module (useless, as this vesc was shipped with an old firmware, not compatible with it …and I’m just not keen to mess up with firmware updates and risk bricking the vesc);
  • Flipksy 65161 foldable propeler;
  • Flipsky 6384 waterproof motor;
  • Flipsky 60A anti spark switch*

Board: 95 Litres
Rider: 82 Kilos
Front wing: Takuma Kujira 1440

Case was designed by myself on Fusion360. I’ve included 4 inserts on the back to add the possibility to mount it on a harness. But for myself, i’ve tested it on a backpack :

Here’s an overview of the most messy resin and paintjob I’ve ever done:

Then, putting all components togheter:

For the mast motor mount I’ve used ‘Andrew W’ design from printables (If you can read this, thanks man!)

All set !!! First run on a flipksy fixed aluminum propeller.

All in the backpack and off we go:

Aaaaaaaand… IT WORKS! :fire:WITNESS ME!

Ask me anything ! Cheers

How long can you e-foil with this 12s2p battery? How happy are you with the ESC? Does it thermal throttle or shut down if you ride non-stop? Is there anything you would do differently?

Hey Doctor!

Efoiling non stop in still water and not falling, with a 1200-1400 front wing I could get around 12-15 minutes. Bear in mind these are worn out reclaimed cells, each one at around 3600 to 3800mAh.

This VESC does the job. So far this iP68 is doing its shit. Needeless to say I’m very happy to skip all the faff of waterproofing and watercooling. I had no thermal throttle or shutdowns at all.

Only thing I think I could do diferent was to build a second version with interchangeable batteries. But I’m to lazy to fiddle with latches, waterproof seals, leaks and this sort of headaches I had with my first efoil. This foil assist version is working as it is (it was built for a friend and he’s happy) so we’ll will leave it as it is.
