I got the board up on foil today! Thank you all for reading through my build and providing advice as to what to try and what could be my problem. I Talked with @Barnstorm this past week. It was concluded that my rear stabilizer was not creating any down force. It is symmetrical profile, so I ended up milling the top side flat with a router. Then because it has no dihedral (its completely flat) small vertical winglet wingtips were added. per @Barnstorm advice. It gets up on foil now but pretty hard to control. Very exciting day to have it working! The Duct-ape wires on the mast was temporary as I will be looking at a complete wing with aluminum mast for the wires. I am strongly considering the slingshot hover glide set up. Any body have experience with one? Also what remotes are others using? do you like what you are using? I’ve got the flipsky v3. but I’d like to find a remote with the (gears) or speeds to click through. Thank you all again for the help!
soon I will post video once I figure out how to get it on here.
I have just today used a Gong foil with V2 mast and it’s far above the Slingshot Hoverglide FSUP I was using.
I think you will find that the GONG product even though it’s better in every aspect that I have experienced is also likely less $ than the Slingshot Hoverglide.
So less $ for better product imho
Which gong foil wing?
The fsup is not a good efoil wing. It’s use case is much better geared towards sup and pumping.
Yes there are Slingshot rigs better suited to efoiling than FSUP but that is what I had for Wingfoiling and at the time I assumed it would be OK to start with. Actually having a big floaty board and big wing (2066 cm front) worked OK and was fun to ride.
I recently acquired a used Fliteboard 100l and bought a GONG V2 setup with X-Over 95 and 85 front wings
Although the board is different I found I can get up on foil just as easy on the 2066-1650 = 416 smaller wing and the ability to ride straight is improved.
What I noticed the most was the ability to turn in a predictable way. I’ve been struggling to foil all the way through a 180 degree turn without touching down. Yesterday that was not a problem even though my foot placement on new board wasn’t optimal.
Hindsight makes everyone a genius but I wish I had started with my current setup😀
Hello, I am looking at the the Gong setups and strongly considering the allvator curve LT but on the Gong website I am seeing both a: WING version and a SURF version. Is there any other difference than the mast length? want to be sure I am not missing something. The Wing version is listed as out of stock currently but I want the longer mast that it comes with. I have a 29 inch or 75mm mast. The SURF version is in stock but with a 65cm mast. I read on another post this Curve LT is great but no one specified which one.
I find the GONG website challenging for product selection as they mix in older designs with new in the same product subsection.
The price/performance value of their product is unsurpassed imho!
Although the price discount might be attractive for older versions I would suggest you look carefully at the actual wing profile to see the difference between the “older” one and “new” one is. It was quite dramatic in the X-Over that I chose.
