Working on my first build. Thought id put details in here for anyone who finds it useful or wants to critique! Bought a vesc 75200, flipsky 65161, and slingshot foil for the build. Started the board today using eps foam. Home depot only had 1 inch sheets so glued 5 of those together. Glued them using gorilla glue. Probably should have glued two boards together, clamped then added another until i got to 5 but hopefully they’ll hold together. Board will be around 5’ long and 24 inches wide. Board is very much modeled after a flightboard pro. Plastic on the boards was a pain to remove but the heat gun helped quite a bit. See pictures below and will add updates with the build
Got the board shaped and sanded! Used a hack saw to shape the outline of the board and then sanding screen from Greenlight surf shop for sanding the rails. Used EPS sealer to fill in voids, theres still some due to crappy sealing on my part but should be fine. 3d printed the walls for the electronics enclosures and need to sand and put them together.
I know its been a while since i posted to the forum, these boards are a lot of work! I finally got around to glassing and putting in my electronics box into my board. I 3d printed the electronics box in a lot of pieces and then fiber glassed it together with a wood bottom. The foil mount was under it and was glued to the foam and electronics enclosure. I used a 8x24x1/4 inch piece of aluminum for the mount. We’ll see how it holds up! I put 3 layers of 6 ounce fiberglass under it for strength. The board is hot coated and ready to make a lid for it!
Also defending the red it looks better in person!
Very nice!
How will you achieve watertightness? Any special connectors?
I am planning on 3d printing a passthrough that has the cables in the middle of it that are sealed in and then a few o-rings on the outside that compresses into the hole. I also plan on finding some sort of thermal pad thats pretty water resistant to act as another sort of seal for redundancy between the mast plate and the bottom of the board. Hope that makes sense!
