Please advice for foil assisted pump

Hi. So i’m playing with the thought of getting a Waydoo foil assist. Intention is to learn to pop out in mid-water, pump, catch wake from boats etc. Eventually take it to sea and use it on waves.
I have a 75cm alu mast and pump setup wings+ fuse (1800cm2) and would like advice on the board itself (size, volume, shape). I did see a board at Gong, not sure if suitable. Gong 51L
I impulsively got a 7L carbon pumper but as i do not have any suitable docks in the wide area that kinda missed the point.
Also signal reception to consider as the remote RX Waydoo offers looks fragile and weird, i’d like to avoid using that if possible.
Background info: Land boards experience mostly (LDP, Surfskate, Onewheel), for water I have an efoil, 100L board which is too much volume tbh, i weigh 75kg.

Surely some of you paved this way already, hope for some constructive advice.

To be able to waterstart, the board should have a certain lenght, volume is not that important. I built a board for the same purpose, to learn how to pump from water start with an assist. It has 36L, is 48cm wide and 7cm thick, 124cm long. Not easy to start with a large pump foil (Gong Ttail L). I wish the board was 10cm longer. I think the board should be long, flat and thin, can be low volume.
That Gong board should not be a problem to start in flat water with an assist, as it is 150cm long.

Thank you. I do not want to break the bank or spend a lot of time building an assist. The Waydoo looks pretty useful apart from the total rubbish anti-hydrodynamics of the battery base. You reckon a printed design (some sort of a more streamlined shield) could be an improvement for this?

Well I think they did it that way as it is in the air once you pump and for easier assembling and handling. It delivers more than 35kg thrust so even if it produces 10% more hydrodynamical drag that does not really matter. The only real disadvantage I see, is when you do a touchdown on the wave then the deceleration might a bit higher than with perfect streamline shape… On the other side if you look at the cross-section of the foilboost, it is not really much bigger than a Foildrive max or mantafoil takeoff system :wink: So best is try it :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

This is actually what i was thinking. The drag and potential snappy take-off would be ok-ish. But the sudden increase of drag during (un) intended touchdown could be an annoyance. Indeed maybe just need to drop the bucks and try it.
In hindsight i’m pretty sure i can design some snap-on print to reduce the impact of the shape a bit…
