Replacing another dead Maytech 65162

So I’ve had yet another Maytech 65162 die from water ingress. A few years older model and I think 100kV (maybe it’s 120kV). Now I’m looking into getting this efoil board up and running as cost effectively as possible. I’m more interested in my two foil assist projects longterm since they combine with winging, but I’d love to get his working for practice and for family fun

So my curiosities are:

  • how are the newer 65161 or 65162’s from the likes of or others? Particularly since they now seem to put some efforts towards actual waterproofing. Are these better in terms of water ingresss?
  • my other projects use 6374 and 6384’s. Love this form factor and cost honestly. A 6374 in the foil assist position gets my up on a similarly sized wing board. Am I crazy to think I should just a 6384 for the efoil as well.

Would love to hear thoughts since I’m happy with both setups and all the stuff I’ve built around them, but would love to save the costs of the larger motor.

I don’t know about Maytech as I use Flipsky 65161 120V round shaft but I don’t think they have evolved much.

Pretty robust motors that fit full efoil use really well or they wouldn’t be used in so many builds here.

Not sure the saving in $ and weight of switching to different motor type would be warranted if your intention is full efoil. If it’s not broken don’t fix it logic😉

A number of people here have rebuilt their motor with new seals etc and it doesn’t seem to be that daunting a task. I kinda consider the cost of the motor a consumable so if it lasts for a few seasons then it’s more than paid for itself compared to the cost of a commercial efoil one.
