Safety with eFoils

Bonsoir
Tu as déjà utilisé ce coupe circuit automatique ?
Comment l’as tu monte sur ton installation ?

Not to be overly sensational, but there is a very disturbing injury photo of a surfer named Yu Tonbi Sumitomo
(google his name for the photo) that had an accident, getting hit in the face with his own board’s foil or mast. It will clearly re-emphasize the importance of safety features in our developments as those risks are just as present in this field.

What would have prevented his accident?

A helmet is a good start, but sometimes you just can avoid some injuries. Also, learning how to fall on a foil is crucial. Lots of great youtube videos out there. Bottom line, don’t try to save/prevent you from falling once the board reached a certain angle, instead, just fall in the direction you were/are headed and restart.

When you try to save a potential crash, that is when the foil and you buckle and the foil folds up towards your face. As soon as you watch a few videos on how to fall/ride the injuries almost vanish

Got some links?

I am going to wear a helmet and full body Wakeboard gear plus shoes.

I am wondering if this relay could work as a cutoff. Rated for 500A at 12V. I wonder if 48V makes a difference. Prime Tech Schwerlast-Relais 12V, 500 Ampere, Winden-Relais https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0078MYB5I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0NYyAbG96R4R0

@giloris I am going to use on of these magnetic switches. You need to get the closed circuit when magnet is attached type.

Hi
But how you install it and where , do you send me a picture
After batterie with relay ?. Havé you installe à waterproof breaker to ?

My ESC doesn’t have a switch, so maybe yours could be done differently. Other builders please feel free to add to or improve my connection suggestion. I am still in the building process, so nothing has been tested. This is my intended hookup. I hope it helps.

Hi
Your deadman support more than 40v
Ubec is absolutly necessery ?

If your ESC doesn’t have a BEC built in, then you need a UBEC to power your receiver.
The Oset brand magnetic switch I am using comes from a 48 volt bike. So I assumed it would be suitable, considering the small current draw from the receiver.

What is your magnetic switch switching? Power to the receiver?

Hi
I à bec to my contrôler to connect thé receiver
My contrôller has a poser switch
But i dont Know how connect dead man After my Waterproof breaker
Dead man has only small wires and i m not sure it s support batteries intensity !
Do i change wires and connectors ?
Havé you a réally picture With exemple connexion ?

@g.gregory8 my magnetic switch is going to be connected to my UBEC which powers the receiver. I’m not sure if this is the correct method, I was hoping for suggestions from other builders too.
@giloris I don’t have pictures as I’m still in the planning stages too.

Hi
My input relay is 44.4 V (2X6S), i install a waterproof breaker but i dont know how installing my dead man switch . Did i need a relay ? , how to connect it ?

What does your ESC do if you unplug your receiver?
Your BEC-Killer does only kill the receiver, not the motor nor the ESC.
So if fail-safe at ESC does not turn off motor this will not work.
Better and clean solution is anti-spark-switch: e.g. this one
which specific you use is depended on your motor-battery combo. If you run more than 60V you have to watch out and depending on the amps you want to drive your motor with, you might need multible fets.

I Want install this safety if i fall to stop motor

Regards

@Giga my ESC has throttle signal loss protection.
So by cutting power to the receiver should cut power to the motor.
