You cal also have a look at the “Easyfoil”
It basically an inflatable SUP with a hole, in which a metal/fiber box is placed.
I bought the board+box and did the rest myself. Even easier to get working than the riflecase, but a bit more expensive
So for what have been discussed above here is my current mindset of my options and what is left to figure out (side note I am based in Sweden so anything that is within europe is a huge plus for me).
(TBD) Board: Guncase (or simple board option if available)
(TBD) Battery: 20s8p(or 6p) Samsung 40T3
(TBD) Motor: Flipsky 65171 6000 Watt or Flipsky 70165 8800 Watt or Flipsky 63100
(TBD) Mast: Gong Mast or From Foil-lab.com , 75cm long
(TBD) Wing: Foil-Lab.com 860cm Wing
(TBD) Motor Mount: 3D Printed mounts for Gong or Foil-Lab.com Mount
(Locked in) Remote: Flipsky VX3
(Locked in) VESC: Makerx G300
(TBD)Prop: Fliteboard prop or Propellerking prop
So a few options of things to be decided, some small like battery size vs weight and some big like which mast is better, what wing is better and most of all what motor I should go for, everyone says 65161 is good enough, but I keep feeling I will probably get one and get bored of it and want something bigger pretty quickly, if you guys wanna give more input I am more than welcome to more of this good feedback
More power will only give you more speed… depends on the person, but I personally strive for more agility rather than speed, so I need to do a lighter build rather than a more powerful one…
I don’t know many people that go above 40 or 50km/h for a long time
If you do that I think a real rigid shaped board is necessary as anything else will shatter on impact…
@Ackermann which setup do you use to do your 50kmh rides? Motor?
Search the Fliteboard “locations”. I purchased a used Fliteboard - board only from a Fliteschool that was replacing their fleet. Some minor cosmetic dings but big discount.
Its 70182 120kv Maytech with a 8" prop on a g300 vesc with 16S. And its 52.3km/h
But i do agree, this Speed ist more Like Proof of concept and Not daily use. Still the big Motor has quite some Torque and gives you decent Punch especially with 7" prop. I Like to have some Backup Power in tight Turns when eg touching the water.
If you are new to the Hobby 65xxx Motor is fine. I am a little bit worried about your high voltage. In my opinion its Not reasonable to use auch hv setup
That sounds amazing, I am sure a 65161 motor is good but with your description the 70182 setup is more what I am looking for, I am looking for speed mostly for headroom and ability more than I would actually ever go that fast on the regular.
You running 16s11p with 30Q’s is about what 1900Wh about, how long does one charge last you for ?
As for voltage 20s should be fine, I have seen plenty of other builds running 20s and it’s hardly anything new, its just for making the build easier for myself if anything, which brand props are you running ?
According to prop Speed calculator you will have around 70km/h top Speed with a full Charged 20S Setup running at 100%.
Neither the Motor, the battery (the max amp will BE high) nor the Driver (you) are able to handle this
I have Flite, FR and Propeller from belgium which is Not available anymore. The belgium one is my favorite, 7" and 8"
Btw my Speed calc from Above is with 6" prop
But if you get a bigger prop wouldn’t you be able to reduce speed and increase torque, I mean I get your headsup but I think also this being a water craft maybe it would reach 55-60 km/h top speed, but my goal is not to do speed runs rather just have headroom for the setup not having to run max throttle or being close to it.
you’ll have more than enough with a 65161 if you have an OK battery and ESC. The bigger motor equals larger drag and larger losses, for little gain. This is a drag controlled sport
I haven’t - can you provide links?
Your initial post asked for input and you have received quite a bit, however this doesn’t seem to have altered your approach much?
Obviously you have every right to build whatever you want but please don’t do something that would negatively reflect on this new sport that would cause authorities to increase restrictions.

I mean I am still figuring things out, sometimes new people enter the hobby and try to innovate and it’s something hit with criticism and sometimes they are doing unnecessary overkill things, I am trying to still figure out things, I haven’t made a order or anything just trying to figure out costs and what my expectations should be.
Besides if I eat shit on the water, atleast in my country no one would give a damn they would just be “he is a jackass and he asked for it”, but with that in mind, it in mind I do put safety first with all PEV’s I build.
The reason I aim high this time is that with almost all my previous PEV builds the first build was always a “miss” too often, too small motors or too low voltage to keep it fun and interesting for more than a month or so, so this time I aim a little bit higher so I dont need to rebuild first thing I do.
Ludwig_bre has a 20s build and a few other builds is also 20s, seen them on youtube and a few other sources, I mean it’s not the most common setup certainly but it’s nothing extreme, if you look at other brands making Eletric water scooters or boats they range between 250-800 volt setups of course they are proffesionally made but still it’s plenty more voltage which is beyond what I would consider safe voltage.
What is your purpose and priority?
What restricting you from implementing an efficient (and interesting) design and not this rectangular case (not to offense)? Then no need for high voltage or big motor…
And have you lifted these things on the way to the water or in the water? The less weight , the happier
I mean it’s purely to avoid having to make a board out of foam, gluing it, shaping it, sanding, glassfiber and epoxy, then sanding and painting, I’d just prefer building something nice and sleek and transportable out of the gun case, also I love the look and all of it.
Did you have time to check the Easyfoil approach? Thoughts? You can also search for “Mala” on the forum, a similar inflatable
Dont forget that Ludwig is also Professionell
