The engine is overheating

Hello friends, how are you?Maytech MTI65162 motor overheating. I don’t think the problem is just the propeller, what else do you think could be the problem?

You had posted earlier that you bought a Flipsky 65161 motor, why Maytech one now?

I had a problem with flipsky ESC

So what vesc are you using now?
Hard to comment or help if you don’t provide any info other than the motor is hot. Maybe you just left the black motor out in the sun :grinning:

You are right  I used Mytech MT SF 300A-OPTo ESc. I am using a 14s battery. It heats up in water while driving. After taking it out of water, I waited for it to cool down for 15-20 minutes. Let me describe the temperature: I can’t hold it with my fingers for 3 seconds.

That’s no good… can you set timing on the esc? I think their opto esc is a rebranded ztw seal 300A. Either ask maytech or try programming the esc.

Which prop are you using?

strong textI am using the maytech program card. I contacted maytech and they said that the fan is too big for the voltage value. I reduced my voltage value from 58 volts to 50.4 volts but the heating continues.

That voltage setting affects the overheating is simply not true. Which propeller? The cheap one (that is too big) or the flying rodeo copy?

I had the kit in this link

This prop is the reason for your overheating. It’s a poor choice, not suitable for the motor.

If you’re wanting a cheap fix then you can cut down the blade area but there are plenty of other good options like the flite prop, FR prop, propellerking (or 3d-printed props linked here). These are IMO better options.

I couldn’t see the connection. I have an old cast (metal) propeller. Do you recommend that I use that propeller?

No, best to use an efoil dedicated prop. Do you have the threaded axle? Or splined?

There is a gear axle. Can you please give me the link?

So you have the splined axle shown on the bottom of the pic?

Then there are less propeller options. I don’t know any efoil props for the splined axle so maybe your best bet is to cut down the blade area. There are some mentions on this on the site but i haven’t tried it.

I will check the engine tomorrow and let you know.

The Flipsky prop bundled with their group kit is 7.25 inches diameter. I cut mine down to about 5.5 inches and it made a huge difference. I’m guessing the Maytech one is similar.

Cut down is not hard. Use a circle of the correct diameter and mark the blades. Cut the excess off and then balance the prop. Maybe start at 6 inches for first cut so you get method of how to shape each blade. I just used a dremel rotary tool with a cutoff blade and then a bench grinder to round things off and balance.

I think I’ve seen a video about this before.
Thanks for the advice, I’ll try it.

Yup I had that issue with Maytech as well - they are garbage - switched to Flipsky & everything has been fine since then. There were esc programming instructions on Amazon that actually worked perfectly. And yes I reduced the diameter of the prop too

I had flipsky esc problem 3 times
I hope they fixed it
