Trouble setting up VESC

Hi All,
Setting up a DIY efoil. Have a Flipsky VX3 Pro remote, 75200 Pro ESC, 65161,120kv motor.
Used this video as he had the same motor and ESC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaVPISP8BF4
Got to the motor FOC setting and when going through the RL and A setting I get a red error on Lq-Ld and Encoder offset and ratio on the bottom.
I tried a couple of different I settings but still got the same error. I tried to save but motor wont start when I pull the trigger.
I tried the motor wizard and got some slightly different figures but the same red errors.
VESC is V5.02 which is what it came with. I got a package, motor, ESC, remote all from same supplier.
I tried the setup input, chose PPM. If I choose center control I get a VSC tool of minus 300%. If I pull the trigger dont get any display on the screen. I guess out of range.
Throttle calibration on the remote is Speed 1089 min 1576 max
Brake 1148 min and 1489 max.
Got a bit stumped and going around in circles so time to stop for the night and hopefully get some new ideas. Any advice appreciated.
Cheers

I would try to do the firmware update like shown in the video
Then follow all the steps again
For remote make sure you are connected with the PPM/PWM cable and remote is also set to PPM output

Which battery are you using?
Also you may share the mconf and aconf files, you get them by clicking File-> export motor config XML and app config xml

@ludwig_bre Why are people running FOC, i tend to choose BLDC always-seems simpler and heats less

FOC advantages:

  • better efficiency
  • less noise from motor
  • higher low-end torque (not really important for eFoil but anyways)

Thanks for the help I think sorted it out. I updated the firmware and it got rid of the Lq-Ld error. “Encoder” and “Ratio” Were still red. These are options not showing on the video. Set the rest up as per the video except using my battery info.

RX I had connected as UART. Dooh. Only thing I havernt connected is the Bat+ wire. Manual says connect straight to the battery +. Assume it handles the full volts as per the manual and guess that gives you the battery V on the remote?

The motor with no prop basiclly goes straight to 100% as per the video. I guess with load will sort out. Maybe 1 in 5 times it wont start, sits in a stalled state. I think when slowly ramping the throttle it does it. Maybe will sort it self out with load. If not ill change some of those setting he suggested for the problem.

Batteries for now using some I had for my 700 size heli. 2 x 6s Lipos so 12s but only 4.2 ah. They are 60-120C peak so should be able to deliver 250-500 amps. I have 2 sets so may parrallel up them as well. Will work on better batteries. Just wanted to get up and running. They should give me 10 min or so to prove all works.

Just need mount all in the water proof box and ready for the beach.

Cheers

You can connect it through UART as well, this way you will get battery voltage, Amps, temperature, all from the VESC
