Waterproofing prints

Hi all,
Please note that I am new to this community.
I am reading as much information as I can before planning a build. Thank you for sharing your builds!

Are you concerned about printed parts not being waterproofed?

I noticed that some of the community have been printing battery cases and esc enclosure parts and perhaps expected them to be waterproofed.

I was looking at a video about submarine building and they were calculating how much water would get inside the prints within a short amount of time.

Perhaps this would explain moisture problems that some have been experiencing.

They suggested submerging parts into a specific solution that waterproofs them post drying.

I am also considering purchasing blue robotics « penetrators » components which are made with aluminium.

They also recommend specific epoxy for potting their « penetrators ».

A few coats of epoxy has done the job for me. The dedicated products for print waterproofing have been too expensive and i doubt they really are a lot better.

@Larsb did you use 2k or 1k epoxy?

2k, normal laminating resin, i wipe the print with alcohol and let it dry before application, there’s always a greasy film residue from the printing.
