Waydoo DIY battery

Hi There,

I recently came on a wayddo EVO set that was put to trash.
The set seems in good conditions put there is no battery.
I ran i quick search but can’t find any information about the specs of the battery, I’ld like to try if the motor works before getting my self in the build or buy a battery.
Also if someone has plans or description of a DIY build of this battery I’ll be intersted.
Thanks for your help
keep it up on foil

Testing the motor is easy. You can use any esc and small battery just to check it turns and runs. Once you know that then start wiring up the rest of the electrics.

Goodluck trying to find a way to make a custom waterproof battery that sits flush within the cavity. Youll need to exactly remodel the battery in CAD, including all connectors. This is not an easy job. Waydoo uses a wet battery principle, so the battery itself is exposed to water, and needs to be filled with epoxy to prevent water from entering.

If you would have a lift or fliteboard, you already have a waterproof cavity (with the hatch) in which you can place a battery.
Modifying a Waydoo for DIY is going to be extremely tough.

As said by @DutchFoiler, if you want to go the DiY route this is an extremely tough job not only for the above mentioned reasons but also because you have to source a compatible battery connector AND a compatible charger with the right female plug.

200828 Batt to ESC conn 3

The fastest / easiest / cheapest way to do it would be to buy a second hand battery AND a compatible charger (appropriate connector);
Best place is probably the Facebook user group called "waydooflyeroneowners"where you’ll have to register.

And since you don’t know if your motor is working and as you don’t probably have a remote, the easiest way would be to contact somebody in the above group close to you and test your mast on a working unit.

Then, even if it works, you’ll see on the FB group that quite a few efoils of this generation (the 2019 Kickstarter units) have been a path fraught with difficulties for their owner (software updates, water ingress in the ESC above the motor, water ingress in the battery, …).

Waydoo? You’ve got a fairly accurate analysis of the 2019–2026 brand history here:

The money and effort you’d put into putting together a working unit (second-hand battery/charger/remote control set) might end up costing more than a fair quality, second-hand model in working order (such as a newer Waydoo, Syfly). More money ? Look at 2024 2nd hand Fliteboard Air on the market.

Public FB groups do exist : here efoilmarketplace where you can search with keywords (Waydoo, Sifly, Flite, …)

Actually its really easy… Build battery, put in housing, pot whole battery…done.

That’s the wrong battery.
He has the Evo which is a much simpler housing to clone. On top of there probably loads of old housings knocking around on Facebook.

@jefoil go for it. The evo boards are the cheapest board only units and if you get it right its actually a far simpler build than with a hatch. I ditched all my boards with a hatch because they just add so much weight.

It’s not that simple. No simply way of integrating DIY in a waydoo board. Also, the evo boards have potted batteries, there’s not a lot of non workings ones out there. You make it sound really simple…it’s not.

Oups, I missed the Evo. The process remains the same:
On one of the efoil groups, could be Waydoo FB groups

1-Find a working Evo unit in your neighbourhood to swap test your motor.
2-If the motor is ok, do the maths and decide if you want to get the missing 2nd hand EVO parts or buy a working 2nd hand 2025 unit or follow the DiY route (which battery connector ? battery lockers ? Not easy IMHO)
