Waydoo Kickstarter gathered $268K. Is $4K commercial eFoil realistic?

I can guarantee that waydoo will not offer a replacement. But if they like maytech they might offer one at “cost price” haha

While first KS backers have received their efoil yesterday (UPS, …) there’s an app release this October according to the initial KS page… feature list is not plublished yet …

I backed this campaign but got a refund when they extended it. Now I see lots of complaints about poor quality on facebook and most people still haven’t received their boards even though it’s 2 months past their promised delivery range. I’m happy I dodged that bullet because my board would have been sitting in the box all winter.

So far I’ve seen complaints about bolts being the wrong size, bolts snapping easily, mast bolts falling out while riding, motor losing power for no reason, turf peeling on the first ride, remotes taking a long time to reconnect after falling, remotes getting moisture inside, fuselage already starting to corrode after 20 hours of usage.

The spokesman for Waydoo admitted that the top speed was overestimated and they don’t even know the true specs because “they’re constantly making changes”. The board is only capable of 35 kph even though they claimed 42 kph in the Kickstarter. Owners say it’s even slower than that, only reaching 30 kph with an adult rider. Battery life also sounds much worse than advertised.

I didn’t expect Fliteboard or Lift quality but this is much worse than I had hoped and Waydoo as a company has handled everything very poorly. Now I guess we non-DIYers have to keep waiting for someone to make an affordable efoil that doesn’t fall apart after a few weeks.

I still didn’t see any evidences about DJI were involved, but in few months kickstarter company will be 6 months already. Have someone proofs about DJI except releases from Waydoo and reposts of this release?

That’s how DJI is involved, but that’s hardly involved at all as they invested in the TXA UAV part, not Waydoo directly. Basically everyone is trying to polish the turd. But at most they will be able to roll it in glitter, but when the glitter falls off its still only going to be a turd…

I think Waydoo used a lot of gimmicks to create false credibility, the DJI claim was just one of them. I also think they took advantage of gullible customers by using Kickstarter but shipping to retailers first. That’s not how Kickstarter is supposed to work and it shows how unethical Waydoo is as a company.

They voluntarily extended their own campaign and then used that as an excuse for the shipping delays. They also tried to claim COVID was responsible for shipping delays even though they launched the campaign in the middle of it and should’ve planned around it.

I don’t know what Waydoo can do to salvage their reputation at this point but I guess it won’t matter. A sucker is born every minute and they’ll keep lining up to buy this junk.

Here are some examples of their excellent quality :face_vomiting:

20 hours of use and already corroding:

Moisture inside remote on the first ride:

And here is the wonderful customer service you can look forward to if you’re thinking of buying one:

That’s a fantastic statement! Couldn’t be more true.
Guys just don’t seem to understand… you get what you pay for! I’ve costed out putting an efoil to market with zero customer support at a slightly lower quality than Lift and it comes in at about $6000. Once you add in much higher spec components like Lift and Fliteboard and then factor in good support, you are in for at least $10k. Watersports are an expensive for a good reason!

That is a wide array of issues. Some seem like a small deal and some definitely do not. How many units have they shipped so far? Glad I decided not to do the kickstarter now. It almooooost got me to do it, but then I remembered how many of kickstarters products end up being massive letdowns and the stakes were too high on this one.

I think they probably have about 100 units in use but several times that many are finally being delivered this month.

The number and variety of issues makes one thing very clear: They did not test their product thoroughly. They admitted as much when they said they don’t know the exact performance specifications. It’s no wonder they used Kickstarter, now nobody can demand a refund when it fails to meet the advertised specs and falls apart after a few months.

I see the Waydoo Flyer ONE as a v2.0 product - where as Lift and Fliteboard are much further along in their development/interations. The reality is that Waydoo is figuring it out as they go - they had to ramp up R&D and production very quickly due to the unexpected success of the KS presale.

I don’t expect my $4k Waydoo Flyer ONE be equivalent to a $12k Lift/Flite in quality or performance but I do expect that the company stands behind their warranty if (when!) issues arise. Keep in mind I can ride this thing for a year and then buy a new mast/power/fuselage assembly as they improve over time. In reality I could do this annually and it will take 4+ years before it approaches the cost of a Lift/Flite. That’s 4 years that I wouldn’t be eFoiling as I’m not prepared to spend that kind of money today.

I know this is a DIY forum but I’m not personally willing/able to build my own. I had hopes for @VeFoil but then Chris vanished (with many peoples deposits).

It’s easy to point fingers at early issues popping up but there are a lot of satisfied riders out there who have been riding their Flyer ONE for a while. I know that Lift and Flite had early production issues as well which they were quick to resolve. Let’s hope Waydoo can do the same. If they go silent on supporting warranty issues I’ll be one of their loudest critics, but lets at least give them a chance to prove themselves.

that number must be near a 1000 units already, Kickstarter alone has 502 backers. Next to the KS campain, I know the dealer in the Netherlands (really small country in Europe  ) has set out >25units on the market.
I hope Waydoo is able to handle the issues of the first series… and satisfly the users before spring 2021…

I have seen this referenced. Doe anyone know exactly what happened to VeFoils/Veconcepts? Although, I never chose to be a backer, I was pretty excited about their approach and had been following for a while.

They haven’t delivered the kickstarter boards… That’s one of the major issues!

They have been delivering KS boards since early October with most backer boards expected to be delivered by end of November

Radio silence. Here and via social media/website. Stopped responding to emails. I’m thankful I only sent him a couple hundred $ for early bird at-cost pricing. He was actively posting for a while with promising updates but I suspect he bit off more than he can chew coupled with present eFoil restrictions in Canada…

They are delivering but for many the season is over and it would have made more sense to wait for the kinks to be worked out next year.

After seeing some of the user experiences I think it is more an alpha product. People are finding problems with every aspect of the board and it does not perform how Waydoo claims.

Or, California. Mine came today
