Waydoo Launching Foil Assist Product

I see that as a disadvantage.

FD box is stiffer than any board in compression.
All it does is force you to use a longer mast at extra cost and weight.

And how do you arrive at EUR 2500?
As far as I can see, I would end up EUR 3079 with two blade prop and since you probably want the three blade it would be 3678 EUR.

Battery prices also near absurd at EUR 1200 for another set of 420 Wh.

Hello Jan,
well I already have a long mast and it’s my regular mast that I use for wingfoiling and it’s fine and the length of the system doesn’t change with foilboost… so I don’t need a longer one
Well it just feels a bit stiffer if there is no batterybox in between mast and board and with foilboost it is absolutely the same feeling as without the motor…
In Europe you get the foilboost for 2500€ net +tax but I don’t know something about a 3blade prop. Can’t find it in the major onlineshops waydoo.com or www.waydoo.tech Can you please tell me where you have seen a 3blade prop or where to order it?

Great if the system works for you.

Actually no. It acts as a spacer. FD want you to believe it acts the same but in reality it doesn’t. I can guarentee if FD brought out a design like Waydoo they’d say its suddenly better and so would all their influencers.
Having the mast closer to the board is better and you do feel more connected.

Also what up with you photoshopping 10kg onto that pic? The waydoo system weighs 5.6kg

Official European distribution.

I did not photoshop anything and would appreciate a bit more civil conversation.

The post above is full of odd claims.
Price is not EUR 2500, weight is not less than 5kg and there simply is no Axis 1050 png wing he claims to have tested the system with.

If you use that system you loose clearance to the water. A longer mast will always feel less direct and stiff than a shorter mast. Think length is 8cm?

I am convinced a 72cm mast with a 8cm spacer that is reasonably stiff, will feel about the same as a 80cm mast with that system.

Apologies, it’s strange they have messed up the weight. Its very clearly in the 5.6-5.7kg region.

Actually it is ±2500+tax which was said. He may have meant the PNG1150 or the HPS1050 which just comes down to a typo.

8cm mast a big difference in how a mast feels. Think axis 68cm vs 75cm. I have both and they fell very different.
Ultimately the clearance comes down to 2 things. does 80cm (75cm mast) clearance with FD under the board feel better than 80cm mast with Waydoo boost. It would be interesting to test both and see.

There is no mention of tax there.
Why would you even mention a price without tax?
It’s like saying gas prices in Germany are in the 80ct/l range.

If he is genuinely stoked with the product, great.
But why make up wrong facts and how can you not know which foil you use?

Your comments regarding the mast are true and the system is a clear trade-off. Better for some, worse for others (including me).

@Jan12 don’t know why you are attacking me for the facts… Every country has different VAT, Belgium has 17%, austria 19% so I think if you compare it is best if you do net without VAT!

@Jezza yes you are right about mast length I compared just 85cm Carbon mast on both, and then foilboost feels stiffer and more direct, I suppose it comes from the more stiffer or direct connection with the board and nothing bendable in between mast& board…At least my conclusion of why it feels more direct

Aside from your “facts” being plain wrong - the more you spin this, the more this reminds me of the AsuFun episode a few months ago.

What you describe is a non issue in the european market for consumer products.
Which likely points to you not being a consumer or you not being from the EU or most likely both.
Otherwise you would know that.

Consumer prices on the EU always include tax, so while what you say is true, it does not matter for the buyer. If the shop in Belgium would offer the product for less (which they do not), that price is for everyone in the EU.

Talking about net prices for consumer products is just not a thing at all in the EU, which makes your story sound pretty unconvincing when you present yourself as just the average guy trying his friends gear.

Well I don’t know why you can’t understand it, I just wanted to be transparent to other countries as this is an international site… In turkey&greece for example it is way more expensive due to the higher VAT tax. In USA it is always without tax. But you are right… in germany they sell for 2999€ with tax …so that is probably roughly what it cost all over the EU…±100€. But in the end that was not my point. Foildrive Fusion is still top notch system, but the Foilboost comes close to it for less than half of the cost with full 2 years warranty, even the battery… Which is quite remarkable i.m.o.

Because it simply is not true.

You can buy the product in Greece for exactly the same price as anywhere else in the EU.
Obviously you do not understand how the EU common market works.
The need to explain how Turkey is not part of the EU, does not really help.

You can indeed buy it in other areas cheaper that the Waydoo site. I have found numerous other than the one above.

Yes, but those prices are for anyone in the EU.

If you ask nicely, you might even get another discount.
What has that got to do with taxes?

I’m assuming what he meant is that depending on where the shop is, then the individual VAT of that area is used. So some areas result in a cheaper price and then you can buy from that area even if you live somewhere else in Europe.
If you buy direct from Waydoo they will most likely charge a flat rate regardless.

The thing is, that is just not how it works.
And anyone from the EU would know that.

If you have a relatively high priced product that is easily transportable and you offer it for significantly more, people will just not buy it. So if your country has a higher VAT, you have to compensate for that or you will not sell.
Its the same for labour costs or corporate tax or any other costs a business has.

What I can see so far is, anyone in the EU can buy the product for 2999+EUR 70 in shipping, but no one can buy it for EUR 2500.

Assuming thats true, how can one - with a straight face - claim, saying “the product is in the EUR 2500 range” is more “transparent”, than saying what people have to to pay, if they actually buy it?

Totally agreed. NEVER give a European a price Ex VAT unless you’re business- business relation. Ex VAT offers to simple consumers have deception and greed written all over it and is considered an insult.

Ok I understand your point now as well, but in the end it ends up the same … so in most european countries they sell it obviously for about 3000€ with tax. But that is still a very good price point… and very close to DIY or cheap aliexpress systems without warranty… So happy that prices finally come down at a level everyone can afford it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

DIY is easily in the <1000 EUR range.
How is that close?

It’s cheaper than Foildrive, that’s it.

I actually thought it was pretty pricey until i saw the Foildrive costs…having said that, i also have seen many Waydoo e-foils and must say i’m impressed with the quality, ride and versatility. So if their take at foil assist is as well built i’d have no problem getting one o those if i’d need one tbh.

The Li-Ion battery, for reasons I cannot explain, doesn’t follow the EU 2 year warranty rule for electronic devices …
