What is needed before building battery pack?

Hello everybody.

I’m about to build a battery pack but I am only a beginner in those things.
Batteries I considered to use according to price and qualities are Samsung 30Q from nkon.nl
It will be 12s14p Li-ion battery pack (168 in total of 18650).
What other parts are commonly used in building battery pack? (BMS, wires for wiring and other)
(I know that batteries can be recharged with balancer or discharged without a BMS, but I rather use BMS since it will be safer for battery pack.)

Looking forward for you answers

Hey! Im also a beginner but after doing some research for my own battery pack, here is what I can share with you. I decided to use plastic cell holders to help with the cooling (AliExpress 18650 cell holders). After that I will spot weld nickel strip onto the batteries for connection (look up nickel strips 8-10mm wide by 0.15mm thick). I might need to use a busbar to connect all my positive and negative cells together, but I need to do more research about this. Let me know if you know more about that. Finally, I ordered this BMS https://m.fr.aliexpress.com/item/32954067682.html?trace=wwwdetail2mobilesitedetail&productId=32954067682&productSubject=70A-100A-150A-200A-300A-Bluetooth-Battery-BMS-With-LCD-Displaly-8S-24S-LiFePo4-7S-24S&spm=2114.search0104.3.84.5a6f977a0mX7WV&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_1_10065_10068_319_10059_10884_317_10887_10696_100031_321_322_10084_453_10083_454_10103_10618_10307_538_537_536,searchweb201603_51,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=9c0a0be9-6f7b-4e35-92d5-856ea5fbaaa9-12&algo_pvid=9c0a0be9-6f7b-4e35-92d5-856ea5fbaaa9 . It was recommended by another user. I haven’t tried it yet since it is still in the mail but the 150a version worked for another user so thats the one I got too.
Edit: Samsung 30q are probably the best value out there! So that’s a good choice!

Yeah, I read that thread about batteries, but that thread is mainly about what 18650 to use. Took some advises from there and here I am. Thank you for your response friend

I’m really into the BMS you order from aliexpress. Just wrote to this supplier since I couldn’t find anything else that would fit my requirements.

But what about https://www.aliexpress.com/item/12S-44-4v-40Ah-50Ah-li-ion-battery-electric-surfboard-jet-board-life-foils-efoil-hydrofoil/32913668297.html
This seems ok to my, final price might be close as I built one for my self, but additional 100 euros to pay for already made battery would save me time + quality guaranteed. I think I might make some mistakes since I have no experience in electronics.

Another user found this too! This is promising but quite risky since you don’t know which cells they use and if the battery pack actually meets the stated specs. I personally wouldn’t risk it but it could be a good option. Only problem would be that the BMS will need to be upgraded as 50a continuous may not be enough to foil. AliExpress does not equal quality guaranteed!

Battery pack from GTK is customizable in your needs, including BMS.

I’ll ask them about what cells they use, are those certificated.

Let us know what the supplier says! It would be great to have a supplier that can provide ready-to-go li-ion battery packs! However, I would ask for a higher amp BMS if you plan on ordering.

@viliuxaaa did you get any respons regarding these batteries?

I asked them:
“I wanted to ask could you customize battery to 12S, 50Ah, with 150A or 200 A discharge BMS.
What would be battery pack weight and price?”

They replied:
“Yes .Sir ,no problem . We can customize 12S, 50Ah, with 150A or 200 A discharge BMS. If provide you 12S 50Ah with 150A BMS ,its price is 860 USD ;
If provide you 12S 50Ah with 200A BMS ,its price is 900 USD ;Its net weight is about 11.5KG.”

That sounds interesting, doesn’t it? Did you go ahead and buy or what path did you choose to go?

Thanks for asking, I decided to build one of my own. After all, one of my goals in this project is to get more knowledge and acquire more skills in things like electronics, forming carbon fiber and etc.

Can you remember which battery cells they would use in the offer?

Any idea which cells they used @viliuxaaa ?
