#3 light pump foil board (goal <1.2kgs?)

First step of sanding done, now wondering what kind of finish I will go for, for a change I have plenty of time before riding it

Filler coat (2 colors) + sanding + varnish
Or
Thick hot coat + sanding + polishing

1.320gr on the scale

This is a 110cm made with 19mm corecell. 19oz carbon both sides plus uni layers at mast. 2.0kg.

The finish is a nonskid deck and the rest in a PU spray after a hotcoat and sanding. Was done full vacuum bag and peelpy/release film.

The PU spray makes an easy durable finish. Many products depending on your location.

Did not find some PU varnish, what about this stuff?
The brand is well known.

But this one is even better.

the actual cheapest option I might try :joy:

I think a 2 component one is always better for outside use. I think you can use 2 component car clear coats on acrylic base

Anyone who uses 2K coatings reminder they contain isocyanate and you need to wear a properly rated respirator…at the very least

Fill coat, epoxy flour :joy:
Did the fill coat to train on sanding/getting a clean surface finish
Plan is sanding then simple varnish.

Bottom fill coat done, opened the holes, cut pad to lenght, final weight will be over 1.5kgs, approx 1.6-1.65kg with pad.
Will see how it turns out after sanding, to know if the surface finish is worth the extra weight.

Mounted the mast to test, seems mega rigid. This board is 10mm thicker than my first pump board, has less carbon but better core and stringer.

Had a long sanding session on the dw, as the top coat was not super smooth and some wrinkles were still present. It was also white/cloudy due to some humidity in the epoxy, I used the board less than 24 hours after the last epoxy. I will apply a new clear coat after the sanding.

Sanded through the CF on the nose area  Did some CF patches.

Sanding.
I will do another round with the vibration sander, then clear coat and pad :ok_hand:

Time lapse in the shape room

Matte clear coat finished.

Done for now, until the first tests when my shoulder will be up to it, at the end of Jan.
Weight budget not meet because of pad and fill coat.

Overall, happy about how it turned out, but unsure about my fill coat strategy.

It was good training for any future build, but for a pump board, it is mostly useless, the board has no need to have any kind of hydrodynamic performance.
