I am a beginner pump foiler, i do weight 95Kg and i am looking to build a foil assist pretty similar to the one here
I want to use the flipsky 6384 140KV, a 12s2p battery out of 21700s and a flipsky ESC.
For the ESC I am not sure which one would be better between Mini FSESC6.8 or FS75200. I like that the FS75200 has some room to spare, but the Mini FSESC6.8 is right now much cheaper (99USD vs 142USD) and should be enough for what i have in mind. (150L Gong cruzader / Gong Sirus XXL 2000sqcm)
At some point i would like to move to smaller boards (Sligshot fliying fish v1 40L) in order to be able to pump with assist.
Did I understood correctly, that the Mini FSESC6.8 is also a more modern ESC? I am a bit confused with the whole āif you update your FSESC wit FOC you may break itā thing. Does it also apply to Mini FSESC6.8 or only to the FS75200?
I would greatly appreciate any suggestion as this will be my first build.
Iām not a pump foiler but from what I understand that during the learning stages the motor is in use fairly often and likely at a higher intensity than a more accomplished pump foiler would require creating a situation where the VESC is going to heat up relatively more.
A Foildrive system is in the $ range of $6K USA
You are going to build something that will cost a LOT less than that so to me looking to save a few $ maybe shouldnāt be a big concern - personal finances asideš
My logic would be to use as robust a VESC as possible that will fit your available space.
Seems like there are quite a few posts here where the VESC / ESC fails due to heat issue.
Thank you for the info, i did not know makerbaseā¦
I will then get the 75200
your video was also very helpful about the update and to be careful about the phase filters

donāt get me wrong, for what you get I think the price is good, but at the end of the day this is an experiment for me⦠tbh I would not pay 6k for a Foildriveā¦
I use FSESC6.8 on mine. From the factory is has bad thermal design but I have removed the stock radiator and used my own solution.
Since my box is metal, I glued the ESC with thermal glue to my battery case. I had to add a couple of copper plates on the mosfets to raise it up 3mm as the two connectors protrude.
I am using it on 13s and 70amp. The temp never goes above 40degrees.
This is how FSEESC6.8 looks after removing the radiator:
I used 10W/mk thermal paste from JEYI. Use the paste only to close any air gaps and make copper stick together better. For comparison thermal conductivity of copper is 40x more than thermal paste. As such you want to use as thin layer of thermal paste as possible.
For my next build I will be using alumina ceramic plates instead of copper as it is also electrical insulator.
Nice, I have also thought about using the battery box as a heat sink or like in the FD assist cutting a hole in the battery box for the heatsink of the ESC to be cooled down.
I have chosen the 75200 and for further builds I will see how it goesā¦
