Flipsky vx5 remote

Kinda spendy!

It is kind of spendy, and given Flipsky’s track record with the VX3 I am hesitant to spend that much on a remote from them. But they do boast a “newly designed waterproof structure” so maybe it will be better

I wonder if this new model uses the same receiver as the VX3. Photos seem to show they might be.

Would be nice to just pair the new one and go.

That is arguably the best looking efoil remote to hit the market!
The rounded corners make it look nice and sleek and it looks like it has great functionality. Pricewise when you compare it to the Lift premium remote its cheap-as-chips. The biggest thing is do you need all that if you are only running an assist style foil setup. I feel the market has change quite considerably in the last 2 years…

Although, having the extra buttons might allow for some customisation in the software which would be amazing!

Needs a tow boogie steering lever!

It is looking great.

But for a foil assist setup I absolutely cannot see the ergonomics work.
On first glance it looks extremely hard to push on your board while still holding/controlling the remote.

The roundish part on the top sticks out everywhere.

Tow boogie is the smallest minority so it doesn’t make sense for them. In adition they could just reprogram 2 buttons to take care of that like Zerotow did with the manta remote.

I have never ever pushed a remote down onto the board to stand up. Its just bad technique. However with a launch control activated from one of the extra buttons would mean you could just go completely hands free.

I did not know there is a “right” way to do it.
How is one supposed to do it?

But I am actually also not pushing on the remote.
For a quick takeoff in front of a wave, I need both hands.
I hold the remote in the right hand with my thumb and fingers, while pushing down on my palm.
With the upper part sticking out so much, this seems much harder with this design.

But if there is a better way, I am all ears.

Regarding “launch control”, none of their current remotes are in any way customizable (beyond stock features)
What makes you think, you will be able to add that feature?

Its not that there’s a right way, its just that there are better techniques that decrease the risk of accidental trigger pulls and also improve success

I hold the remote with all fingers, but push on either the right side or palm. If I’m not rushed I’ll generally engage the cruise control at ±60% which is enough to get up. If I fall the remote is held underwater so that the signal cuts while I disengage the cruise control.

This remote has an updateable firmware and a lot more buttons. This means the ability to program.
Foil Drive is launching a new remote with some extra features and they already use Flipsky Vesc’s so in a complete speculation, maybe this is whats coming considering timings…

This sounds to be pretty much the same way I do it.
Obviously I have not tried it yet, but I would assume the marked part in the picture would press on the board, when doing it that way,.

I do not need any of the new features the remote has (beyond being more waterproof), so I will not be one of the firsts to find out

I have a Lift setup which is bulky as &%£# and the Lift remote is the most uncomfortable ever (the trigger is horrid and you get hand fatigue). But I don’t push it on the board when I get up.
I’ll send flipsky an email to ask if there’s a way I can run a custom firmware.
