No, sorry, havent tried it yet
Here you can find the stl and freecad files
Haha, a very similar design.
Such a cool hobby. Everyone is creative and ponders about the best solution
Hi - how did you route the wires on the 5062 - was it easy to move them from the front ?
Not sure what’s your question about…
The wires come out at the side of the motor near the mast. And then go straight to the mast and under the tape

I’ve been using my setup for a few months now and its working well (20-30 hours on it at a guess - these photos are from original assembly). I’ve followed most of what others have done above but designed a tool-less mast clamp for those interested.
This is for an axis 19mm mast but will work better with most other narrower masts (as the prongs that go from rear to front can be thicker). I take this on and off all the time and haven’t had any issues - you need to make sure it fits perfectly and do not force the quarter turn or I’m sure you’ll break the printed tabs off.
Hopefully the link to fusion files works for anyone wanting to use it (just change the mast profile to suit) [Fusion]
EDIT: Assembly is on grabcad here

Great Design! Nice and simple.
That does look great! Thanks for the pics. I am just starting this journey of a DIY foil assist and will be using it on axis masts so this is of real interest. Do you have a link to your other files for the mast clamp mount that you don’t mind sharing? The link provided works but just shows part of it (unless I’m doing something wrong).
Many thanks.
Update: my mistake. I have just downloaded the app and can see them. That is brilliant. Thanks.
Hello Everyone,
I have a local battery making company that have said the could make up the below for this project. I am not confident with the battery making side, hence getting a company involved to do it properly. Would you mind looking at the below spec they have sent me and let me know if it will do the job with the 6374 or 6384 motor?
Many thanks,
James
6S3P Molicell P42A 21700 battery pack.
22.2V 12Ah BMS,Balancing Protection Circuit 50A Continuous 80A peak
Dims 130mm x 65mm x 75mm
weight 1.5kg
Output Lead to XT90 Discharge Connector
Output Lead to XT60 Recharge Connector
The pack is finished in a double shrink wrap coating
I think the battery specs should be OK for a foil assistant, Molicel P42A are good batteries that deliver high A. I can get on the foil on my efoil with 50A battery current.
But his batt is only 6s and only 3p, so battery sag will be important. Is 20v*80V=1600w enough yo get you on the foil?
Yes you are right, could be on the lower end, maybe better go with 8S or higher current (4P).
Thanks for both of your replies. Pablo_foil - what would you recommend for a foil assist? I went for 6s3p after reading the posts in this thread and this seems to be commonly mentioned. Nothing is built yet though so keen to hear all views.
Yes. That is correct. If i recall correctly thats the config of the commercial foildrive and also other builds here. The p42 can deliver 45A, so its just a matter of using higher currenr bms or just use it for charging (you can still add a fuse for discharge).
Having said that, i also paid a local guy to build the pack for me. Fuse for discharge and bms to charge. But honestly i only have the bms because he insisted a lot on it. If i had to do it again id remove it completely and use an external balance charger, as many have done here. This way you know exactly what is goong on in each cell, you can set the exact voltage/storage, etc
Man this is awesome! SMART! Would love to try this clamp out on my Axis mast! I cant seem to download the file from the Fusion link you posted. I think file sharing through those links requires a premium membership. Could you share the fusion file some other way? Im running a flipsky motor so would probably need to modify the bolt hole pattern.
This mount is awesome. Nice work!
Thanks also for sharing the fusion link but the link shared doesn’t allow download. Is there any way you could change the settings for us to try it out?
Thanks for the extra info on this pablo_foil. I think I will go for 6s4p.
Ok, i have the same and works fine. Total weight =3.75kg, so not the lightest out there.
Just one comment.
What is your intended use? As a foildrive its a bit overkill since you get more than 10min ride time and 3p have proven enough in many builds. But if you want to play a bit with it then it should be ok. But then you could consider using 8s, as was suggested here and in the assistplus
Hi pablo_foil,
My plan was to build an assist plus version. I’m 90kg and would be on a SUP foil board. Maybe the 8S3P will be the one I need then. I don’t need to foil in flat water. I just want to catch loads of waves. I just want to make sure I have enough power for plenty of waves. So then, in your opinion, 6S3P 21700 or 8S3P 21700?
Thanks,
James
