trying new things with my surf foil assist ! okp on Instagram: "Redwood Paddling… my way."
Unfortunately there are no logs. I have installed two controllers on my tow boogie and am enjoying it.
This company has already deceived users by giving incorrect parameters of their previous controller. Should they be trusted?
Excellent. Where is the battery?
thanks bro! on the top of the paddle. 8S3P with Maytech VESC that I had to rework. It’s almost a plug and play. I roughly did the 3D part, consider it a 1 day work !
Anyone here interested in building a set for me?
There are so many great solutions being shared here and I unfortunately don’t have the time to tackle the project myself.
I’m happy to pay for your help if the price is reasonable.
At the moment I have a GONG foil (ALLVATOR V2 CURVE XLT 2100cm²) and a Slingshot Flying Fish (4.2 30l) and I’m looking to use the kit to get on the foil to practice pumping and get a feel for it to eventually be skilled enough to do dock and beach starts without support.
Please ping me at mark [at) ManuelMark dot Com.
I live in Northern California.
Cheers!
That’s what Foildrive does! Makes them for people that don’t have the time or skill - it’s just expensive!
Agree.
A raiden7 might be ok for a Foildrive, but they’re a lots better options available. In my opinion the raiden7 are completely unsuitable for an efoil with out lots of modifications. Even then there are better options available.
Their data sheet says 120amp continuous, but on this forum they say it’s only good for 60amp continuous, even at that current the studs on my one overheated and desoldered themselves!
Will be interesting to see reviews of the pro version, but I’m not giving them any more money and instead bought a G-300 from makerx.
They are being watched. They cannot disappoint twice.
I want to build my first kit for a foil assist that is powerful enough to be used as efoil for at least of 20 minutes (on no wind days) but primarily for flat water light wind wingfoiling (getting up on foil).
I read through the most of the thread comments and found very good information about various components. Luckily or unfortunately, depends how you looks at it, a lot of things has changed since the beginning of the thread.
Thus, I was wondering if someone who has built a few of these kits already and figured out the kinks, is willing to share their best setup, components, including the 3D printing files for the motor mount and the clamp or sourced props.
This way someone rookie like myself can confidently build their first kit with minimal mistakes trial and error costly consequences.
Yeah, I have read through this thread a few times and there is a bit of contradictory info, no in a bad way but just so much info. I still can’t settle on a motor. There are a few “build lists” but some of the info is old.
Little safety check please. I am starting my build.
I ve got a cheap ebike battery 10S5P 10ah.
Should I worry about it bursting out during foiling?
How to prevent it? Or should I go with something else?
If it can output 100A then it could work, normal ebike batteries are more like 30-40A which is too little. It needs to be waterproofed and so on.
How do I know how much amps it can produce? And if not what? Will it burst? Overheat most likely?
Check the type of the used cells and how many of them are in parallel. Then look up the data sheet of the cell. If discharging is going through a bms, this could be the limmiting factor.
What exactly has changed?
I believe the motors are now waterproof, the ESC can be water cooled, you no longer need to print your own folding propellers etc.
This is the latest part post here. Would you change anything about it?
Maytech wireless remote - $165
Speed Controller
Turnigy 150A Marine ESC - $100
Hobbyking (often low stock)
Other options are flycolour or seaking
Motor
6374 or 6384 - 130kV - Motor - $120US + post
SAITE motors - Epoxy coated - Ceramic bearings - cut of shaft.
Waterproof Boxes
Explorer 1908- $65 (big box lots of space)
Hibox EN-AT-1027 -$30 same as FD
Battery
6S3P - 21700 cells
Amass XT90 connectors (hobbyking) these are good for batteries or cable splices. Find a local battery builder a small 18 cell battery is around $400-$500 plus post plus charger.
Battery monitor - $5
DroKING
Prints and Pods
All DIY
Mast mount - 3D printed in PETG
Cable guides - 3D printed in PETG
Props SLS Nylon - circa $65 for 2
Try Zelta3D or DIY
Props
EML-store do a great after market folding prop. Out of Germany.
I got one on an early bird deal and it works great. About 160mm diameter.
I have also made my own props using SLS Nylon printed blades. These also work good.
Motor Cable 2.5mm2 2C+E Aristoflex- $10 from REXEL Or use Lapp OFlex ordered online.
Lapp stainless cable glands about $20 each. Or cheap nylon glands also work but less robust if cable is pulled on.
I usually buy the cheapest 6384 120kv and don’t waterproof them. After riding I use Cyclo Fusion 3.0 corrosion inhibitor and the motors look better than waterproofed but rusty Maytech or Saite. High aspect wing AXIS ART 999 loves speed, so my choice is 8s4p VTC6.
What hydrofoil do you have?
Have anyone bought battery packs or is everyone building them yourself?
I found this builder in China. Looks like the use genuine batteries but I can’t be sure.
Any thoughts?
