Hi was this in Saint Suliac?
The exact spot where they arrive in the latest josh Ku vidéo tremazan near portsall north of finistere
I am using the standard MR60 connector with dielectric grease. This has been run weekly submerged in saltwater without any issues. The only step I take is to always apply fresh grease before each use.
I will share any files you need for the setup but I do not currently have the free time to make changes to fit different masts, etc. If the current motor cowling works for you let me know and I will share it with you.
Swapping masts might make the 5065 work a little better but it still has less power then the 6362 motor. Also the 6362 fits the standard foil drive propellers making it easier to run different prop setups. With the 6362 and two blade FD propeller on 12s2p I get 35 minutes of continuous efoil time and about 55 minutes of prone surfing non stop on an 850cm front wing.
The 5065 motor does have much smaller wiring and I use 16 awg down the mast for the phase wiring, 14 awg down the mast for the 6362 motor. The maytech 5090 would probably work well but would need to be rewound to lower the KV down to a reasonable value. Maytech motors are also hit or miss quality wise. I will try to get some good photos over the next few days to share with you.
What do you mean by - getting more power through limiting motor current? What setup do you have? What vesc do you use?
Flipsky 75200.
It appears Foil Drive limit the battery and the motor power setting isn’t important, at 60 amps.
I have limited the motor power at 70 amp, with all other limits and max settings to 100 amp. It has more power, however the batteries are prone to overheating and losing power if under load, such as trying to get on foil in challenging conditions.
Previously with the old setup, I couldn’t get on foil sometimes at 40% battery remaining in difficult conditions and extended full power trying to get on foil numerous times.
With my new setup the other day on my third attempt the battery was failing, but I used extended max throttle.
It could be because it is a 6s battery and an 8s would be better.
It could also be ESC temperature limiting.
My lastest setup I’ve gone with now is flipsky 6384 water proof motor, maytech 160amp esc water proof. Kparts motor mount and 3 bladed Ali prop. Battery is molicel 21700 50p 12s3p inside ip68 rated box in camel pack. I’m 95kg on 80l apple tree 5’4” x 22 board Armstrong HA980 with 180 speed tail gets up and going easy I’ve been getting 30-40mins 7.5kms at full efoil.
I was running 6579 but can’t seem to find a prop that works efficiently for it yet
Nice! Do you have a link for the ali prop?
Where do you place the waterproof ESC? In the box, in the bag or on the board? Thanks.
The esc has short wires from box and is placed outside box inside bag so to still get wet . It did get warm to touch so I suppose need to get wet occasionally to keep it cool
Contact him on what’s app he’s great to deal with
Which props have you tried with each motor 6579 and 6384?
Interesting that you dont think the maytech prop is efficient.
Are you lacking runtime or torque for starting? And did you try the stainless one? 41kg vs 30kg max thrust and the plastic prop loses torque with increasing amps at the top end as i guess as the blades deform
My maytech kit with stainless on 14s4p gets me up on all but my smallest kitefoil full efoil low position on Sk8 750 on a 30L 5ft board but it does consume power at speed lasts 30 minute or 40mins cruising with a larger foil.
Would like to improve efficincy If I can, tempted by a kparts 3 blade prop
When I was using it I got a lot of cavitation or air around prop. I think it was inexperience in riding at right level plus i think there’s slop in the bolts and blades that’s maybe causing vibration I had issues with my board nose was riding too high due to building too much negative incidence in tracks . Your right it does use more power to run I did try it with kparts 3 bladed prop and it couldn’t get on foil.
The 6384 with Kparts 3blade prop feels smoother and quieter and more efficient. I have ordered another pod and will try these motors again but in efoil position and or maybe as a tow boogie
I’ve use both steel and plastic props both have heaps of power steel more than plastic get up on foil easy
good info, I also had a fair bit of cavitation and am now using 6579 in low efoil position.
the stainless prop doesnt feel too loose but blades may not be optimised shape. at full speed with 14s there is definite vibration annoyingly.
what do you mean by building too much negative incidence?
which kparts prop material did you try? surprised this didnt get you on foil… pulling too many more amps and bogging down I guess.
Is the power smooth & linear with maytech esc + flipsky motor
Did you try the 2 blade 4’8" flipsky prop that comes with 6384? I like the look of the hub taper
I haven’t tried flip sky prop yet but will.
I didn’t get to run flip sky 150amp vesc for long it cut out as soon as I went in water to try so I went back to maytech 160amp speedy.
For some reason the Kparts prop on 6579 motor didn’t have the thrust no idea why.
I’m having a great experience on the 6384 motor combo it’s smoother definitely due to the prop assembly is tighter
I built this board with negative angle so angle of wing is slightly down but I’ve added maybe 3 or 4 degrees which is too much for assist.
My other boards are fine and sit more level.
I’ve only got the Ali Kparts 3bladed props it holds up better for weeds and reef we have here
I’m definitely try the 6579 motor again at full efoil position when my spare pods turn up. I’m hoping it’s smoother under water more.
I’m finding as I get better control with motors at 25cm level they are ok I still haven’t been out in decent waves yet to get the transition from motor to foil. Hopefully this RnR I’ll get a chance to try.
That is very surprising that alu 3 blade does not produce as much torque
Presumably compared with stainless 2 blade maytech prop?)
6579 in efoil position cruising I can see a long line of airated water but it feels pretty smooth. full speed with 14s and a Sk8 750 foil there is vibration and it feels like its using lots of power so I dont hold it pinned for long.
Good to know 6384 works with 160A maytech esc I shall give one a try.
Do you know if the waterproofing is good for saltwater with the flipsky? Flipsky Waterproof Brushless DC 6384 Motor 140KV 4400W for Surfing Boa – FLIPSKY
Any idea why your flipsky 150A IP68 esc failed and have you tried a replacement?
transition from motor to pumping on flat water was harder than i expected even with large high aspect wings but Im able to pump now and looking forward to getting in the waves more
