FreeRChobby 66160

Tomorrow I will test this “monster” as a tow. Hopefully the prop will fall apart before the motor burns out.

Im running new alu versin of firmware.
New modified version is included in new vesc tool

Damn.
I would not wanna try that.
Looks dengerous.
I hopemotor will survive.

For the motor maybe. However for fingers and limbs, this long-chord MIT type blade makes it even safer than the mid-long chord MIT blade demonstrated as “safe” in this video:

The motor survived. However, traction is not enough. The use of two 6384 motors was much more effective. The towing itself failed due to the failure of the transmitter antenna at the base, which is why the control range was reduced to one meter. However, it turned out to be an effective bodydrag against a fairly strong current of the river.

I just got a 66160 motor, supposedly 120kV.

I wanted to test the MTPA but already got some issues:

Phase-phase resistance is huge (measured the same with two different mohmmeters) and it’s not the same value between the phases. 86/95/105 mohm. That indicates an unbalanced winding.

At 100A current 1kW of heat is created in the motor. This motor will have really low efficiency and it will most likely burn before getting up on foil.

hello…
How did you mesure resistance?
My motor did not have resistance that huge and i also got 120kv. phase resistance was around 30 mohma.

Milliohmmeters… i also got huge cogging with nothing attached. I’ll try an isolation test, could be that motor is also short circuited.

cogging on this motor is normal… it is relay hard to turn shaft by hand magnet are very strong.
i dont know why yours have different resistances and why are thay so big. Maby bad motor.

No point in running it like this. I will try to get warranty.

actualy i think that originaly my motor also had aroud 80mohms of hesistance betwean two phases…
when i first rewinde it i used thiscker wire so i gat lower resisstance around 65mohm but vesc will read half of that
becouse that is resistance actualy of two phases. motor is star connected

Yes, you did a good job with the rewind :+1:

if you decide to try it ot i can send you setting that sould work with that motor.

The main leaks with this motor are in the cable entry area. Found this after filling with mineral oil. I also additionally apply Marinfett grease in the shaft area, since after removing the cover, uneven wear of the ceramic seal was found.

Man, is it frustrating with motor quality issues like this.

I mean, i’ve been tinkering with brushless since 2017 and the dud number on these chinese motors is something like 20-30% - that’s a whole lot of wasted time and resources.

I’m seeking warranty from freerchobby for the 66160 motor as we speak. The delivered motor has 100milliohm phase resistance in 120kV and the three phase to phase resistances are differing by as much as 25% (measured by two different milliohm-meters)
Long story short, this motor will burn long before the rated 6000W.

Let’s see if they come through, so far they try to avoid responsibility.

I finally got my money back for the 66160 motor through a paypal claim.

Freerchobby tried to argue that the phase resistance was OK, but that it varies with rotor and without rotor assembled - which is obviously incorrect.

I had to disassemble motor, remove rotor and take a film where i showed the resistance measurement to get the paypal claim through

The bottom line is that the performance charts for the 66160 motor on the freerchobby site are falsified - this motor will not deliver the stated power.

Freerchobby is a company to be avoided since they sell poor/faulty products, then try every means to avoid warranty.

hello @Larsb
if you will not use yout 66160, ar you willing to sell it to me?

Could be possible, but why? It really is a poor motor, you could get better value for your money elsewhere.

i will revinde it as i did with my first one.
Ofc if you offer a reasonable price

Give me an offer i can’t refuse in PM :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
