Good for you. I wish I was as much of a Good Samaritan as you.
I also don’t care how disappointed you are. If you read above you will see that there are other users of this forum that totally understand and support the decision to charge a small amount for it.
And since you require a fair bit of fact checking as well, the original files I shared were in June last year. Almost 8 months of being available from my drive for free. Not exactly “as soon as I realised people can sell their CAD files” is it.
Since you are such an honest and giving member of this community why don’t you produce your own version of this design and offer those files for free and I will gladly support people downloading those.
How did your 3D-printed strap hold up? I finally figured out how to print TPU on a Bowden extruder. No retraction stopped the filament from getting stuck in the feeder wheels. I got a few straps off Aliexpress but they did not suit my needs and I am thinking of making a strap using TPU 95A. Thanks.
Bunnings sells them, but I think it is a bit like the Ozito brand, it is only sold at Bunnings, and I don’t live in Australia. I found some on eBay, but they wanted over 4 times as much. I’ve tried redesigning your STL to accommodate a 25mm side strap, but after 5 hours of playing in Fusion, I thought it might be easier to make a strap. Based on a quick mock-up, it looks like my printer can just handle it if I print diagonally across the bed. I’m just sort of tinkering with Fusion 360, for me, it’s kind of like playing with Photoshop for the first time. Weirdly familiar, but just blown away by what I can do if I watch enough YouTube videos.
I can’t figure out how it works… Maybe someone can make a video?
Originally the Tesla handle did the tensioning on the strap. But here it looks like something more fixed.
I’ll give it a try. The two pins are angled backwards towards the motor, so the elasticity of the strap creates tension, which holds the strap in place. Here is a video https://youtu.be/mfh2t8_yYmM, but please note that the band I am using is not correct. I have had to cut it down from 25mm so you can see a knot of orange band that I have not cut off yet, and I have not cut the band to length.
Thanks for the video! (BTW I suggest changing the YouTube settings to indicate that the video is not for kids. Otherwise, it imposes restrictions, such as disabling comments.)
Do you find stretching the strap by hand convenient?
How does it secure the strap on the fixed side?
I didn’t know that about the kid’s setting, thanks for that, updated.
I actually have only printed a prototype and don’t have any experience putting it on with the motor attached, but I think it is going to be a little fiddly because the strap on the non-fixed size has to be cut down to give only 30mm of length after the last belt hole. Might be a little bit tricky to stretch but I think the user would get used to it.
On the fixed side the strap gets a little bit wider and it seats on a small shelf. I don’t have this strap so I am either going to 3D print my own or cut up the existing strap (which I am doing now). Check out the picture you can see on the left hand side.
The Mount they are selling is not the same as what is being sold by MOOSE. It is actually a lot better in design. Despite Moose saying they are selling his design, it is not
It is certainly no more similar to moose’s, as Moose’s is to strongarm’s.
Sigh…
I am not actually referring to this design at all. Not even slightly. As you say its quite different. Cant comment on how much better it is - but since you feel quite strongly about this. Will take your word for it.
I have however seen examples of my exact version of this design being sold in Europe and in China.
Just to clarify (again). I am not up in arms about people selling the design i worked on, nor can i do anything about it. I simply said if they are selling them - i feel its perfectly reasonable for me to sell my own version. (for $15 i might add) Not exactly paying the bills.
I started an alternate design a while ago, so thought I’d share my take on this concept. Hasn’t been in the water yet, so likely a revision or two will follow
