Jezza's Build (slow)

Oke, 20-30 cycles is not so much. But you don’t use it so often if you did that in 2 years? I use the tools daily so maybe 100 cycles a year. I did change the cells of one batteryfor sony vtc6 cells 3 months ago and will have to see how that battery holds up

Yes, its possible to charge faster.
I am driving a Tesla, and at superchargers it charges at 3.3C but the battery cooling system is almost lifting the car off the ground. From what I know tesla’s have a cooling channel running trough each row of cells, so each cell can individually be cooled to allow for this kind of charging current while keeping the cells at the right temperature and prevent damaging them. There is also the feedback from the car back to the charger telling it to slow down when batteries get too warm. I can see that charging speed peak goes noticably slower in hot weather.

Based on this I think that the only problem with charging at higher speeds is the heat development of the cells damaging the structure.

Another thing to know is batteries deteriorate due to expansion/contraction caused by both heating/cooling the cells as well as for the fact that a charged cell effectively has more volume than the same cell being empty.

Research has shown that charging a lithium battery from 15% to 85% instead of say, 5% to 100% will easily double its lifespan. The expansion/contraction is worst at the extreme values…

I charge to 4.1v at 30A for a 12s12p pack. Is this bad?

My pack is split into 3 packs and I charge using a parallel charge board with an ISDT T8 balance charger with 2 HP 750w 12v supply. (24v)
The pack is barely warm to touch after charging.

Am I correct to assume while balance charger this way with the parallel board, I’m charging 4s 36p

So each of the 4 cells = 36 x Samsung Q30 18650s
This should be able to take plenty of amps. As at 3000mAh x36 at 1C would be 108A

Or have I messed that up?

I use it once a month but for house work (heavy cutting metal, Wood, concrete drilling and so on I have a kit with 6 tools)
I think the problem is battery cooling , the charger cooling system is awesome and can work 24/7

Are you charging with a BMS? Or without? At 4,1v 1C would be 108 amps yes… its about 432Watts

Put batteries in parallel and you increase mah, put batteries in series to increase voltage.
If 1s1p = 4,2v 3,5ah
Then 2s1p = 8,4v 3,5ah
2s2p = 8,4v 7ah

Etc.

We need to charge with max of 0.5c so divide Ah by 2

A bms would divide the current over all batteries again so you feed the accumulative voltage… and adjust amps accordingly to result in the same 432 watts (for 1C)

No BMS. I have balance leads only.

Well things got derailed here…

Any updates on your build?

:call_me_hand:

I suppose is some ways… Most of my stuff is strewn through other threads…

My main board is still this one. It now has the battery inside the board. My new inflatable boards (custom designed by me) should be coming soon. I need to be more proactive on getting projects finished as I have a bunch of different ones on the go all at once (wake winches, efoils, foils, e-skateboards, boats).

Any updates on the inflatables?

Factory has capacity to build, and are awaiting my command on how much material to order. I’ve had loads of other things on the go and am actually still debating whether its worthwhile doing a production run or not. And also whether I want to deal with shipping etc…
Maybe the right way to do it would be to put together a proposal with pricing and see how many would be interested on the forum. They won’t be nearly as cheap as the Chinese inflatables as they are made in Europe and then the carbon version is quite a bit more expensive than the standard…
I also haven’t even had a chance to construct my own housing for electronics etc… Covid means the wife sharing my usual workspace so all the fun things got put on hold!

What do you mean ?
Either China inflatable or made in Europe …?
Or are you referring to the mala boards?
They are damn good … A Jezza board would have to prove itself before it sells …

Convince through quality and not by speaking badly to others!

The board I have designed comes from the same manufacturer as Mala and is made from the same identical materials to the same identical standards. I designed my own shape though with a slightly different hatch shape.
I would never sell something that was not decent quality! It’s not the way I do business…

What would be the cost for the inflatable board + the box?

Any news on that board? already available?
