Looks great nice and compact.
Can you share the 3phase plugs are they modified MR60 or 3d printed?
Normal mr60
They will be potted and glued, waterproofing is done externally with the orange foam
they dont get hot they omly rated to 60amp
The 60A rating of mr60 is usually not an issue for assist builds. Vesc reports peak apmps anyway, so rms is lower.
Had a complicated few days working on the build, first I was ready to pot the v4 assist, all worked, but I decided to check for isolation.
After checking for obvious shorts of the 3.3v to the chassis, I went to measure the leakage current, effectively feeding 38v into the 3.3v. This is what you get for working too late on the builds ![]()
after trying to change the stm32 but failing to get usb back, I tried to install a flipsky 75100 in the system, but it was also faulty, did not check it before installation.
Defaulted back to v3 system for code red on the river, but after 30 minutes I snapped the pod again. Whas fun while it lasted, quite challenging with the 1050cm2 barracuda L.
Finally went parawing, getting there riding it and packing. My takeaway is that when I will get my assist reliable enouth, the assist is a much more versatile tool if you mostly want to dw.
Lots of wasted hours and hw, but should be worth it in the end!
I have had many hurdles like this during the builds I’ve done. They are really testing at times and can be so annoying. All seem forgotten when you get it working though. Thanks for sharing. I know I’m not alone ![]()
You need to use an alu plate either side to spread the load better where the bolts are.
Yes, this is why I went alu for V4 system, where I also increased the distance between both bolts. To fix the v3, I will do a fiberglass layup to join the pod to the base and spread the load, other than the broke part it is still working.
An alternative makeup would be making a silicone mold and then doing a pour resin mixed with alu or GF powder.
Looks like a great spot. Are you using the gong plus v1 or v2 there? I got out on a v2 today. Very nice….
V1 3m with 6 added nitinol ribs that keep it from total collapse when riding the front lines. My friend with the paddle in the photos has the v2 4m, should be able to test it sometime soon. Had a few good sessions on the harness and 1050 foil, but still having trouble in my switched stance.
What kind of cells do you use for your 12s1p setup?
I have been daydreaming with such a setup but i am going to play safe with my first efoil…
How much current do you need for getting in foil with your DW setup?
I used the p50b molicel cells. Amps depends on the foil. On a big DW foil I pull around 50amps. I’m not using it for efoil though. Just as an assist.
Some footy from a session today, it was very windy and choppy, I could not really motor upwind when standing up.
V4 assist coming up shortly, a replacement 220 vesc is on the way
Flat start seems possible bit not easy with amp jet drive
Thats an awesome design. I’ve looked at your v2 design which was for 18650’s - I didnt think you could fit 21700’s. How thick are the walls of the battery holder? And can you share this design? Thanks.
Progress on this build, with new 220 vesc that arrived this morning.
Seems like the vesc express can and rx uart were also fried during the first issue, so at the moment only ppm works and I get no uplink for battery.
I will get the system into the water this afternoon, and I also ordered another vesc express and maytech RX.
I potted it in magic gel so far to get access later on to replace those components, at this point I also want to know what else may fail or be problematic, like signal or pod strength.
Good news is it works and nothing broke.
Bad news is the maytech is really marginal in power, and with 125A phase it did not have enough torque.
Had some cutouts, probably phase overcurrent. With no working vesc express, I could not tune in the field.
Got 5-7 starts, but it was taking so much time due to lack of torque. Will increase phase current to 160+ A and see how it goes.
Missed the big boat wave due to end of battery, bummer.
Cells are resting at 3.25v, that is a good thing and means that I will be able to start almost to the end of the battery.
Did not stop the watch when I switched to pure pump, and with the low motor torque I dont have a clear idea of the number of starts I could expect.
The pod and prop work well, it does not ventilate unexpectedly.
Which Maytech is that?
